Was there a Garbage Truck passing to the? left of the Recycling Truck @2:50?
By: Accoraptor. on 09 Sep 11, 14:19:49
Why don't? these Raptors have roof racks? I thought every SP had roof racks.

ya mean the single pass ones? pity - if only I had the money I'd buy? one.
By: erikals2. on 20 Jun 11, 11:45:44
i dont think grab is automatic - you have to push a button on the DART control joystick - one to clamp the grab around the bin and another button to release the grab - MJ? joysticks are like that

epic fail at 0:34 the waste bin is? about to fall over LOL

Hey mate, we've chatted before, they are the brand new models with the IQAN canbus controlled system. I love em, i dont have to get out of the cab anymore to diagnose faults, and we've hardly had any. Just get paid to sit around? all day ATM

It is? interesting what you say about the paddle squashing the recycling because IWS recycling centre here Adelaide limit Our MJ's trucks to 5 ton and they really crack a fruity if we go over but our Superior Pak trucks are limited to six ton. They tell us the glass gets crushed into the paper. They crack a fruity if we go over six too LOL All trucks have scales now so no excuses :-)

I haven't found this myself in green but it is winter and most bins are pretty heavy so the summer may present this issue, the double paddle system I can imagine being pretty good in clearing the green, I have only used the doubles with recycling. I know a few drivers from Sita with GenV and they are pretty happy with theirs, I see them at the tip. I might see if I can? do a VID of them unloading. One of their drivers is ex cleanaway so he will let me have good look.

The Raptor also comes from the factory with a really slow arm so our first port of call was SP workshop to have them cranked up, plenty fast now. I heard a few councils NSW? initially having problems but ours were all pretty much sorted before they hit the road. We have some drivers with many years exp (20+) who are really quick and they all tell me they are maybe half an hour a day slower than they were, mind you they are all finishing earlier as they now have GPS - LOL

Yeah 2010 models all computerized . The bad is the slide isn't quite as far reaching (as MJ's), have to get out a bit more which is ok (I need the exercise) Yeah Denise is UK company, and western star is owned by TPI so I imagine it is a given. Will? be fitted with Cummins married to an Alisson same as ACCO, The bad with Acco's for RACV work is lack of visibility they really are bad. More glass = better visibility = less accidents (Scoop)Dennis already here being trialed

Are your DART's 22m bodies, I saw the old 29m Mk3 DART's from Wyong and they were my favourite truck, they were very entertaining to watch and had heaps of character and were very unique, sadly they are gone. It would be funny to see a paddle fall out? the back, hopefully the bulldozer wasn't underneath. Could you get some video's of the old DART's before they go if possible, I haven't seem one for ages. When you grab the bin, you pick it up on the claw, grabbers are automatic?

Our drivers prefered the old trucks as they were faster, even though they were not fantastic. It is understandable that the lift weights would change, different council, different materials. Are the SP's the 2010 model, because in my opinion, if you have the previous models they are rubbish, only the new computer controlled ones are the good ones as you have probably experienced? Is Dennis? the UK truck company, I will be very unhappy if TPI stop using ACCO's for foreign trucks?
By: macdonaldjohnstonfan. on 17 Jul 10, 14:21:41
Yeah the old SP's were terrible, new ones do seem a lot better, however my favourite trucks will always be the MJ's, personally I prefer their sound, looks and the? way they work, they have character, but thats my preference, SP has come a long way, but still needs to work to get up there. I was talking to one of our drivers the the week before the new trucks started and he said Superior Pak's are absolute garbage, they are terrible and the new ones are way to slow.
By: macdonaldjohnstonfan. on 17 Jul 10, 14:17:06
I have heard that for recycling the paddle is more gentle if you know what I mean, it doesn't cram and completely squash everything together. The Superior Paks have been known to be pretty unreliable, the previous trucks always had a problem of some sort and seeing the SP? mechanic around was not uncommon, hope you do not have the same experience. I have heard about the Paddles breaking, how long would they last until metal fatigue sets in?

Thanks for the info, you have given me some? insight on the Raptors. What can happen with the Raptors and greens is that the greens just sit in the hopper and don't actually pack until something heavy lands on them and puches them into the bottom of the hopper. These new Raptors are good trucks, way better than before. However for the greens I do believe that the GenV was a better choice. The drivers up here seemed to prefer the MJ's over the Raptors as they packed more.

We have a fleet of Mj's trucks that use the split body for split bins and to be fair they are getting on a bit, but my god do they break down alot! Not a day goes by that one? of them isn''t having issues, seen them tip off in the Dom shed and the paddle falls out the back, really funny! These trucks are actually based at the MJ's yard and this is just as well. only 9 mths left of contract and no more split bins for them, 3 bin system -(that's if we win the contract)

Yeah Prospect in Adelaide, have driven for Pt Adelaide too a well? as Charles Sturt and Nawma - (Cleanaway) Don't know much about the old SP's (haven't heard many good things though) but the new ones we have are very quiet and very smooth Cleanaway owned by TPI so were always going to be SP's - imagine once dennis truck come on line all cleanaway will be those too as Western Star are bring them in and they are TPI too. Our cleanaway are really great to work for!
By: pedigreesroyal. on 16 Jul 10, 16:50:30
No not true! Again depends on body size, we have three different sized bodies in our fleet and what they can put on is very different.? My truck is a small body (low trees in our council) and yeah not as many bins as the old Mj's trucks but our big body trucks we use for recycling put way more on than our big bodied double paddle Mj's trucks. I had mine in at SP the other day to increase pressure on packer and getting more on now. 590 in GW at 11.2 ton today. (overweight)
By: pedigreesroyal. on 16 Jul 10, 16:23:27
Most lifters are set to a certain weight, you can crank up the pressures on any of the lifters, our Mj's lifters are set at about 100kgs and the SP's are about the same if anything the SP's are lifting slightly heavier bins. But like I said that is determined by the workshop settings. Any bin over 100KGS you can bet it is full soil or very wet grass (not often) We have had 30+ Mj trucks in our fleet and? I have driven most of them, we now have 15 new Sp's
By: pedigreesroyal. on 16 Jul 10, 16:11:43
Yeah 200 per hour on recycling or domestic, Have seen the genv in action and look to be quite good, I have had mj's paddles ripped to bits and just the? design itself in more vulnerable to damage than the pendulum, throaty of hopper gets blocked easily too! 10 ton of green on and I am in and out at the tip while the genv trucks from sita are waiting to clear theirs. Most of Dom guys do 1400 1600 a day. How much they pack depends on the size of body and pressures on packer

I noticed that the new trucks were running for 2 weeks in my area and were than taken off the road completely not to be seen until the 1st July. All of the old Southside trucks are still parked at the back of the depot waiting to be auctioned off, sad to see them go. The Southside depot? is located at the Black Iveco Dealer on the Ipswich Motorway, I drove past today and saw the whole fleet and the old trucks, hopefully the new ones will have better care. Sita are now much better.
By: macdonaldjohnstonfan. on 11 Jul 10, 11:51:47
You are 100% right, however the driver did say that the issue with the old trucks was resolved very quickly. I asked him whether the new trucks were brought it for specially for that but the driver said that they were just being tested and they took the oppurtunity when the other trucks were unroadworthy, but they were all fixed. The news did over sensationalise the issue with the old trucks and the? department of transport and make it sound way worse that what it was.
By: blackers10. on 11 Jul 10, 11:32:49
the Single Pass are all gone(are being assessed then off to the auctions and melting pot for the bodys as far as I am aware. I live in the Caboolture shire so don't get the 340s or green bins, the new ones were out early because they required running in? AND we had issues with the old fleet re:department of transport inspection issues we had AND just breakdowns from age etc now we just need the new ones brought upto spec and the streets of Brisbane will be much cleaner
By: macdonaldjohnstonfan. on 11 Jul 10, 11:27:07
It is similar, however? more refined, it uses a hydraulic rotar, not a cylinder which is faster.
