I think part of the point is that his business practices were more efficient, but also unsustainable in the long term. Picking off the tufts would have taken longer and possibly yielded less material, reducing his profits and he couldn't see past that? initial shortcoming even though it would have allowed his business to keep going. Sort of a little picture, big picture deal.

Yeah; that shows that there are sustainable ways of taking resources from the Earth without e.g. removing the actual resource? entirely from the Earth. I think that just adds to it's moral message, personally :) good point.

Every single time I watch this, I get so irritated and hate the oncelor for being so fed up with his greed for money. Everything that he does destroys the wonderful environment we had, and it's disgusting. But in reality, it's actually what we all do everyday.. :$ If only we all? realized how much pollution and change we're bringing into this world.
