Hot Topic: Is Global Warming Real?
Many of us are asking is global warming real? Current evidence says it is. Many sceptics are beginning to believe the answer is yes due to the wealth of scientific data pointing toward a global warming trend. Is the news really as bad as so many scientists say it is?
Maybe global warming is nothing but pure bunk to redistribute wealth. Global warming is the increase of average world temperatures as a result of what is known as the greenhouse effect. Certain gases in the atmosphere act like glass in a greenhouse, allowing sunlight through to heat the earth's surface but trapping the heat as it radiates back into space. Global warming is concerned with global scale changes. The IPCC 4th Assessment Report Summary for Policymakers has a particular section summarising the conclusions of detailed studies using a wide range of paleoclimate data.
Or has global warming stopped? It's not a viewpoint or a sceptic's inaccuracy. Global warming is by definition a phenomena which affects every country. Pollution may be caused by a small % of developed countries and yet those who suffer the most may be pacific islands who contribute nothing to global warming. Global warming sceptics have challenged the way the graph was assembled. In this activity, students interpret the graph, estimate when the Earth could be 1 oC hotter, and defend challenges to their own conclusions.
Global warming will influence human lives negatively, death due to heat waves will occur, infectious disease like malaria will become common with the increasing temperature. Changes in climate not only affect our bodies but also harm our crops. Global warming is an issue. Think about the summer we have just had - it seemed like winter.
Global warming threatens unmanageable calamity. Global warming is projected to have a number of effects on the oceans. Ongoing effects include rising sea levels due to thermal expansion and melting of glaciers and ice sheets, and warming of the ocean surface, leading to increased temperature stratification. Global warming will affect rainfall, sea level and the number and strength of extreme weather events such as storms and floods. Human health, agriculture and water supplies will all be affected.
Global warming is having a dramatic impact on our lives. Put simply, our planet is heating up at a rate which in unsustainable. Global warming is the straw that breaks the camel's back. It is the difference between a category three hurricane and a category four.
Global warming is a very difficult problem to fix. People are having a hard time agreeing on what to do about it. Global warming could melt enough polar ice to raise the sea level. In certain parts of the world, human disease could spread, and crop yields could decline. Global warming may also affect wildlife and species that cannot survive in warmer environments may become extinct. Finally, human health is also at stake, as global warming may result in the spreading of certain diseases such as malaria, the flooding of major cities, a greater risk of heat stroke for individuals, and poor air quality.
Global warming and global cooling are cycles that have been going on for billions of years. When it occurred before man put all those pollutants in the air, water and land (which I strongly agree is not good), when it occurred before man even existed, why should I believe that is the cause of global warming this time? 1) Global warming and climate change; 2) Climates of the past; 3) Global warming will affect agriculture. New crops will be able to be grown in areas that are currently too cold to support them.
Global warming sceptics consider that the weather models used to establish global warming and to forecast its impacts are distorted. According to the models, if calculations are made the last few decades must have been much worse as compared to actually happened to be.
Global warming has become the latest fad in politics. It is now politically correct for political leaders and many others to speak openly about global warming. Global warming is the new drug; something else for the science community to point to in order to get its grant $$. I'm not having any of it. Global warming is real, it's time to accept that and address it with change.
