Material price for your DIY solar panels.

You know that technology makes possible to use clean electricity. But we continue using very environmentally harmful fossil fuels that are continually destroying the ozone layer. This ozone erosion is causing climate changes that will be very harmful in the long run. But the use of solar energy is clean and renewable.

Electricity from solar power is generated from the sunrays. It can be an unlimited resource. Power plants use very expensive fuels that harm our environment. The idea for adopting a solar energy lifestyle is far too interesting.

You can buy your own solar panel availables online. The range in price goes from $1200 to over $7500. In Amazon you can buy a solar panel kit for $8000.

Using quality material can allow to a handy person to build very good solar panels. If you make them as a hobby, you will pay $3 per watt. If you want a 1.5KW solar panel, you can decrease the cost to $1.7 per W.

Cost per 150 W:

- 3/4in 2ft x 4ft plywood panel $20.

- Junction box $1.

- Solar cells $1100 for 500x2.5W unbroken monocrystaline cells ($0.77 per Watt), say use 60, or $132.

- 50ft tabbing wire and 10ft bus wire, $20.

- Clear silicone caulk/sealant $2.

- Epoxy silicone sealer $35.

- Junction box $1.

- Clear plexiglass $20 (at low volume).

- 3/4in 2ft x 4ft plywood panel $20.

- Flux pen and solder $5 (technically less).

Total cost per panel is $248, so 1.65 per Watt. Possible to drop further at volume.

You should know that to connect solar panels to the grid, you must be certified with UL in US. But only if you want sell power to the company.

Nowadays, the do it yourself person can obtain everything that is needed to make their own work. Several DIY books and videos can be bought online. They are all very good step by step guides with very good explanations to build your solar panels.

You can check that material not cost more than about $200 or $250. This is under $8000 price for some commercial panels. You can enjoy with your family building this amazing project. With the DIY manual everyone can build easily solar panels, but with some efforts.
