Carbon Footprint Reduction - Learning Management System Lessons

By Tom Biggerstaff

We have made tremendous progress through industrialization but have achieved the same at the cost of our environment. The emission of toxic carbonaceous gases is the main cause of concern. The amount of carbon emitted by a person is known as his/her carbon footprint and this has to be reduced in order to save the environment. Many business giants have understood this and have started to curb emission. Learning Management Systems can be used to impart knowledge about this to the employees.

It is indeed very difficult to hire experts who can teach about sustainability. So companies prefer online Learning Management Systems to tackle this problem. The company's rate of carbon emission is assessed by this system and a solution for it is found.

The analysis of the system includes a full energy audit along with a 'consumption of resources' report. This lets the management people know how much resource is used up by the employees which in turn helps them calculate the amount of carbon emitted. Based on this report, a plan is laid out by the management and then implemented by the company so that carbon reduction becomes a reality.

It is believed that getting an LMS installed in a company is a difficult task. But it is not so in real life. Experts say that 15% of a company's emission comes from poorly trained staff. This can be curbed if all the employees are trained properly in carbon reduction methods. Making use of an LMS that includes a lot of competitions, quizzes and textual learning content will help a company achieve this goal.

Companies prefer a per-user payment plan to paying a flat fee for a course. The administrators of the company will be able to teach a large number of people at the same time using an LMS. The period of training varies according to the staff. The main goal of the administrators is to make the employees aware of the amount of carbon emission made by them and how they can control it

It is not a difficult thing to reduce one's carbon footprint but one has to adopt certain habits in order to make it possible. This can be done by following simple things like recycling plastics, cans, aluminum foils etc. Carbon emission reduction can be achieved fully if each and every individual is educated properly about the procedures.

Companies are now making use of Learning Management Systems to pass on knowledge about carbon emission reduction. And we can see a greener and safer world if all companies adopt this method.
