The Dangers Of Carbon Monoxide

By Tal Potishman

Carbon monoxide is a force to be reckoned with. Once inhaled, its affects can be so devastating that it can even cause death within minutes. Carbon monoxide poisoning can come from a number of different sources, whether these be at home or at work. A lethal gas; it is odourless, invisible and only needs a faulty appliance to make its way to its victims. Once it has been breathed in, it replaces the oxygen in the blood, killing off cells and starving vital organs of oxygen.

Many reports have indicated that some 20 million households in the UK are not protecting themselves by taking necessary precautions to detect the gas. Some of the early symptoms to look out for are feelings of nausea, dizziness, headaches, and forgetfulness. The general nature of these symptoms suggest that they can be easily missed or misinterpreted. This is even more so when the person affected moves out of their environment and their symptoms clear.

What precautions can you take?

As there are risks of carbon monoxide poisoning at home and at work, if you are not careful, you can get affected. However, there are some important steps people can take to minimise the dangers of exposure. Once people start to take necessary action, they will be better equipped to deal with any emergency that arises.

Inadequate protection on holiday can cause harm to yourself or your partner. Before your departure, it will be good to check first if there are any gas appliances where you are staying. Although this might seem odd to begin with, it is better to be safe than sorry. You always have the choice to be moved to another location if there is a gas heater at your location. If you want to be extra safe, it might be good to take a carbon monoxide detector with you.

How do you act in an emergency?

One of the most important things is to know what to do and who to call in an emergency case of carbon monoxide poisoning. If the appliance you were using starts leaking gas, stop using it immediately and get everyone away from the area as soon as possible. Never use the appliance again until you have had it checked over by a professional registered engineer.

In addition, you must ensure that you get enough ventilation into the area. Open your windows and doors and vacate the area. If you have someone that has been seriously affected by carbon monoxide poisoning, it is essential that you remove this person from the contaminated area immediately. The person affected should be moved out into the open air, and be give pure oxygen if it is available. It is essential that medical help is called for, and the person should get rest.

Once the health professional reaches the person affected, make sure you notify the health professional about your suspicions of carbon monoxide poisoning. This is important so that the correct treatment is provided. It is important that you do not smoke in the property if you have gas appliances installed. Also make sure you do not turn and light switches on and off.

Top Tips For Saving Money With Recycling

By Peter Shephard

This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding interesting recycling facts. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about recycling.

Recycling your soda or beer cans will save a lot of energy, for instance. Recycling is the process of collecting materials that are often considered trash and re manufacturing them into new products that can be resold and used again. It is made possible by people who separate the recyclable products from their trash and send the items to a recycling center where the products are reprocessed into new items. Recycling plastics has many benefits; it contributes to energy savings and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. It also saves non-renewable sources like oil and gas.

A poll indicates that it is approximately 25% of the population who doesn't recycle That is a lot of people, so, you might consider: "well that is normal because adults weren't brought up learning to recycle but the kids are recycling, right". Again you would be wrong! Recycled polyester scrap is also added to the streams of molten PET at a point prior to the moulding machines. Recycle for cash programs drastically improve recycling rates-up to a 1,000 percent increase in lower-income neighborhoods.

I trust that the interesting recycling facts you've read so far has been informative. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty that may remain.

The method is becoming more and more relevant in the current scenario when waste management is the need of the hour. This is because of the fact that wastes of natural resources are taking place at an unprecedented growth. Plastic lumberers are looking for your moderately stiff plastic bottles. In fact, there's a market for lots of things that may be in your garbage can. Plastic is not profitable.

You can now recycle your old iPod touch and receive cash for it, meaning the environment can benefit from your actions as well as your wallet or purse. The method in which you can do this is simple and swift meaning there is no reason that you should turn down this offer to be paid to recycle your iPod touch? You can't get much more socially responsible than that.

Recycling has experienced rapid growth as a technique to reduce the solid waste stream volume. Despite the public appeal and acceptance of recycling, the reverse logistics channels used in recycling have received minimal attention. Recycling as much of our material waste as possible is one way each of us can make a difference. The State of Oregon has set a goal of recycling 64% of the waste stream by the year 2009.

Of course, it's impossible to put everything about recycling into just one article. But you can't deny that you've just added to your understanding about interesting recycling facts, and that's time well spent.

The Basics of Wind Energy

By Dale Green

We've been using wind energy in this world for hundreds of years. You've seen windmills in images from Holland, along farmlands in the United States, and various other parts of the world. They are used to help pump water, grind grain, and help the economy continue to grow. Unfortunately, it took a huge energy crisis for us to start taking notice of all the benefits.

Similar to windmills the wind turbine get attached to a tower, so it can capture the right amount of the wind's energy. A good elevation for these turbines to be the most effective is about 100 feet or higher. This way they can draw energy from the fastest winds that are not as turbulent as they are on the surface.

Turbines with their blades that are similar to propellers catch the energy from the wind. There are normally about 2 to 3 blades attached to a shaft which in turns forms what is a called a rotor. The blades turning in the wind create lift and drag. Drag happens when the wind hits the front of the blade. Lift happens as a wind pocket occurs on the backside of the blade. By combing the two forces it makes the rotor turn similar to an airplane propeller. And the shaft is turning a generator and this is what creates electricity.

Most of the time you simply come across the larger versions out there. While this may be true in most cases, the world is beginning to understand the importance of wind energy. Knowing this, manufacturers have come out with smaller versions in order to help people pump water, lower their monthly electric bills, and do it while living in the city or on the outskirts.

But for a larger application the turbine can be used in groups or combined with solar power applications. These larger projects can be part of an utility grid power system. In this size of operation your would have to have many turbines working together in a wind plant of sorts. Many of the providers of electricity today do just that to supply the needs of their particular customers. Some of the power companies are now buying excess energy from their customers who have wind energy.

It's safe to say that we are depleting the fossil fuels out there at an astonishing rate. This is why you need to find alternative power, which in this case is wind energy. If it's not wind energy, then it's solar energy. In fact, you can even use the two of them together for more savings in businesses and homes.

Wind energy is 100% renewable an causes no harm to the environment. This is the type of energy that you need to be using these days worldwide. You could ultimately save 100% on your energy costs, through using this power along with other forms of renewable energies. You will also being doing something good for your environment.

So do you what you can and think about your family's future. If that means using wind energy to cut cost on bills and help the environment, then so be it. Twenty years from now you'll want to know your children aren't being hurt by the same issues we're experiencing today.

Global Warming vs Natural Climate Change

By Janet Corby

Would you like to find out what those-in-the-know have to say about global warming causes? The information in the article below comes straight from well-informed experts with special knowledge about global warming issues.

We already use recycled toilet paper so we're surrendering my to mother nature. Climate simply refers to one day of weather after another. Global-warming true believers say, let me ask you the following question: Do you view weather forecast projections for 2 weeks from today with the same certainty that you do a computer model that purports to predict the weather 100 years from now?

Complex economic tools including computable general equilibrium models, international input-output models and engineering-economic models are used to assess the baseline emission levels and abatement costs for the economies examined. All outcomes suggest that abatement is possible, but will be expensive. Consider the distant past. Two hundred million years ago the earth was much warmer than it is now: dinosaurs roamed the Antarctic, which was then lush and tropical. Could it really be the case that the 'global warming crisis' is really as much about careers and power as anything else?

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of global warming causes is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about global warming.

CO2 levels are now increasing, seemingly inexorably, by nearly 1% a year, and the trend is accelerating. It is also beyond doubt that these increases are due to human activity, particularly the burning of fossil fuels, rather than being due to, say, volcanic activity. Co2 is just the start, studies in 1968 Berkley Cal. The current conditions have started the release of methane and we cannot stop that by reducing co2, the tipping point is past.

Global warming is one of the most hotly debated issues today. Cars have been identified as one of the leading contributors to the escalating global warming problem. Global warming is a huge risk. We're not just talking about retiring our winter coats in favour of lighter jackets. Global warming is one of those era-defining issues for which perception is reality. And if that perception shifts-and it could shift quickly-the economic impact on energy companies will be swift and lasting.

Greenhouse gases trap heat energy trying to escape from the planet's atmosphere. It normally goes out through virtual windows, which are becoming plugged. Greenhouse experiments show that many plants growing in an atmosphere enriched with carbon dioxide react by increasing their root-to-shoot ratio. This means that the plants put more of their growth into roots and less into stems and leaves.

Is there really any information about global warming causes that is non-essential? We all see real things from different angles, so something relatively insignificant to one may be crucial to another.

Do They Make Solar Hot Tubs?

By Patty Kopner

If you go into a hot tub store looking for a solar hot tub, you might be disappointed. They have everything for hot tubs now including fancy underwater lights, music, and even TV's but they don't have any that run on solar power.

In order for a solar hot tub to work, you would have to live somewhere where there is a lot of sun. Also, since it is best to keep the water warm all the time, at night there would be no sun power to do the job. Therefore an alternative source of energy would have to be found for nighttime heating. Solar hot tubs could probably be made but for the little demand they would have, it is probably not worth it for manufacturers

A solar powered hot tub sounds like a great idea especially if you are interested in saving energy and the environment. You can find parts if you like to construct a makeshift solar panel heater for your hot tub but it will probably end up costing more that it will ever save. This is the reason why manufacturers don't make solar hot tubs.

If you want to use some solar power with your hot tub, what you need is a solar hot tub cover. What you will want to find is some sort of cover that has solar cells and transfers the energy to keeping the water warm. Hot tubs are usually kept on all the time to keep the water hot and a solar cover will help reduce the energy. You might look online to find such a cover or you might have to find it somewhere else locally. There are not that many retail outlets that deal with solar products so it might be harder to find than you think.

Heating a hot tub with solar energy is something that has not been perfected yet to make it a viable option. For this reason, if you want one you will need to figure out how to make your own. At best it seems, the sun can be used to help heat the water but not as a stand-alone power source. Saving money and helping the environment can go hand in hand some times but in this case with hot tubs the technology is not available yet at a cheap enough price.

The Benefits Of Making Your Own Biodiesel Fuel

By Bella Holly

Have you been thinking lately about your role in maintaining the environment? You might be wishing you could do something more to decrease the air pollution in your area. The good news is not only that you can, but it's easy!

By making biodiesel fuel yourself, you can not only save tons of money each year by not having to pay oil companies' skyrocketing prices, but you will also drastically cut down the emissions your car burns off.

A biodiesel processor is the best way to save money on the ever-rising costs of fossil fuels. For around 45 cents to $1.25 per gallon, you could produce your own biodiesel fuel that will burn safely in any diesel engine. If you don't have a diesel-fuelled vehicle, you might consider looking into having yours converted. You can contact your vehicle company and inquire if they know whether your model of car is able to be converted to a diesel engine.

The biodiesel processor kit may come with a 40 to 55 gallon drum that may come with the fuel filter and a fuel nozzle. These are used in order to filter and to dispense your biodiesel fuel. Your biodiesel fuel processor is usually designed to transfer your methanol from the drum to the mixing tank and many times, will allow you to dry water wash the biodiesel in less than three hours.

Not only will you save money fuelling your vehicle (and even heating your home, if you choose to do so!), there are certain tax rewards available from the Department of Energy. This means that your biodiesel fuel equipment would not only make traveling easier, but it will bring even more long-term savings! By now, you're probably seeing how a biodiesel fuel processor will soon pay for itself! So, what are you waiting for?

Renewable Wind And Solar Sources Guide Online

By Cherry Smith

We should think about renewable energy as how best to rather than should we adopt it. The world is now pressed more than ever before to take drastic action to combat the harmful side-effects of conventional fuel like oil and gas. Actually, green and renewable energy sources such as wind, water and sunlight are nothing new. They have been around for centuries and with the renewed interest and the associated technological advancement in them, they are ready to take center-stage indeed.

The situation is getting increasingly compelling by the day. Given the pollution, political conflict and high prices of oil and gas not to mention the sensitivities of the troublesome nuclear power, few will argue with renewable energy nowadays. It's within reach of a great many of us in the United States. A simple solar system here and a Residential Wind And Solar Power generator there and pretty soon, the entire neighborhood will join the green movement as more and more people experience the benefits of renewable energy first-hand.

Adopting solar power benefits the environment while doing the user a big favor too. This is because it's green, renewable and cost much less financially in the long run. The fuel is sunlight which is free or charge and everlasting. Once installed, it's virtually maintenance free. Nowadays, photovoltaic shingles are fancy enough to actually be an aesthetic feature of the home. Also, they are eligible for government grants and incentives in many states.

Wind energy is currently the fastest growing natural power platform in the world. It's indirectly a form of solar energy in that wind is temperature-induced air movement as a result of the heat from the sun. Like sunlight, wind is also inexhaustible and basically non-polluting although windmills are known to generate some noise. There are usually regulations in tower height, appearance, safety and noise level to comply with in regard to residential wind power systems. Ample real estate is necessary for the wind tower and the surrounding space also.

Most people are sold on the advantages of homemade Residential Wind And Solar Power systems but initial cost is a common concern. DIY will overcome this setback in a breeze as it brings down the cost to only a fraction of retail prices. There are then the camp who thinks DIY is complicated and only for the handy but there's news for them too. Many homemade wind power generator and solar power system guides and handbooks that are readily available on the internet have proven to be very successful with rather regular folks.

Old habits die hard so there'll be those who are reluctant to just let go. A neat best-of-both-worlds approach is to go primarily off-grid but keep the grid as backup. Instead of being primarily dependent on the grid and backed up by traditional power generators, we can handily cease being a part of harming our own planet by incorporating residential solar power, Homemade Wind Power Generators or other forms of renewable energy into our household and use the grid only as standby.

How Recycling Can Save You Money

By Joe Stanton

The best course of action to take sometimes isn't clear until you've listed and considered your alternatives. The following paragraphs containing interesting recycling facts should help clue you in to what the experts think is significant.

Recycling in the textile and clothing sector can take several forms. The best known method involves the manufacture of a textile or clothing product from recycled consumer waste-such as plastic bottles or waste polyester yarns or fabrics.

Remember, your trash must be in a trash can - you can get fined for leaving just a bag out. Recyclable materials will be collected in the same place as your trash (so if your trash is picked up in a rear alley, that's where your recyclables now will be collected too - this is a change). If a new battery is necessary, the technician can sell and install one on the spot, and take away the old battery for recycling. If you're not a member, try car battery recycling resources. Nationally, we currently only recycle 30% of our waste. When the US Environmental Protection Agency estimates up to 75% of our waste can be recycled, obviously recycling is not yet part of the American ethos.

If you don't have accurate details regarding interesting recycling facts, then you might make a bad choice on the subject. Don't let that happen: keep reading.

The numbers 1-7 are the resin codes that appear in the chasing arrow symbol typically located on the bottom of a container. Previously, only plastic bottles numbers 1 and 2 were accepted. The bins are located in trash enclosure areas outside the mall to encourage mall tenants to recycle cardboard and other recyclables. The program is meant to reduce the amount of material sent to the landfill by 35 to 50 percent. In Southern California, five or six states have used (and put back) water from the Colorado River before we ever get to it.

Polystyrene comes in blocks or popcorn. Polyethylene is used in sheets and bottles. Polystyrene foam, used commonly as padding in appliance packaging, takes an incredibly long time to break down in the environment and additionally, animals may ingest it which blocks their digestive tracts and ultimately causes starvation.

Of course, it's impossible to put everything about recycling into just one article. But you can't deny that you've just added to your understanding about interesting recycling facts, and that's time well spent.

Pros and Cons of Solar Energy

By Jordan Iwase

Knowing the solar energy pros and cons is one of the most important things in deciding whether or not you should buy this source of power. The uses for solar energy are nearly endless, some of the most practical uses are: generating electricity, central heating, hot water and cooking

Solar power comes from the sun. Solar energy is environmentally friendly. However, when the rays emitted from the sun enters earth's atmosphere, it dilutes quite a lot

We'll start with the cons. One big disadvantage is that you need the rays to make use of solar energy. Locations were sun rays are scarce can pose a problem for this source of energy.

Sometimes, roofs on houses do not have a good angle for collecting sunlight, making your overall energy amount lower. This can pose a big problem for those wishing to convert to solar energy.

There are many benifits in using solar energy too Solar energy costs less money than electric heating. That is one of the biggest advantages of solar energy. Just by using solar energy, you can save a lot of money on heating bills. In return you will get lower electric bills and it also means that you dont have to maintain heaters.

Solar energy can be a great solution if you live in a remote area with no power-lines. There are remote areas where power companies have no means to access your home. Solar power is a great way to generate energy for your heating, electric and even cooking needs.

Electric heating is more expensive than solar energy. That is one of the biggest advantages of solar energy. Just by using solar energy, you can save a lot of money on heating bills. In return you will get lower electric bills and it also means that you dont have to maintain heaters.

Desalination of water is a great use of solar energy if you are in an area where fresh water is scarce. Solar energy evaporates brine and leaves the salt crystals in the bottom of the basin. The water condenses back in another basin where it is now drinkable.

How to Create Positive Energy to Relax

By Bill Lee

We are often told to relax, however no one necessarily tells us how. Living a stress-reduced life is essential in lessening the danger to your body and mind that is accumulated over time from the day-to-day obstacles in life. It is necessary to learn to relax, not only when you have health issues, but to prevent them also. Symptoms of stress to look for are:

High blood pressure, Rapid heart rate and breathing, Being tense and in chronic pain, Anger management problems, Concentration problems and Lack of confidence

The interest of maintaining good health and managing stress, you must learn to relax. Some Methods of conditioning your body to relax are:

Autogenic: This technique involves relaxing and using both awareness of the body and visual imagery in lessening stress. To perform this technique you would repeat certain words in your mind. You can envision a peaceful place as well, when doing so, inhale, exhale deeply, and aim your attention at relaxing your muscles.

Progressive Muscle: In this technique, focus on "slowly tensing and relaxing each muscle group." This so you learn the difference between the feeling of tense or relaxed muscles. You start in your toes and working your way upwards. Start by tensing your muscles for five seconds then relaxing for thirty seconds and repeat.

The method of visualization is done by imagining a visual journey to a tranquil place. This can involve all of your senses like smell, touch, taste, sight and sound.

Meditation: Play some soft music, and sit in a comfortable position, shut your eyes and handle your feelings. As well, if you prefer to just focus on not thinking at all, that is another way. You will discover that your breathing will slowly deepen and will become even, and while this is going on, your muscles will begin to loosen up.

Tai Chi: This is considered meditation in motion. It is a martial art that is considered a way to face your inner issues and hopefully achieve peace in the mind and soul. Tai Chi enables the dormant energy in your body to be released so that you are more regenerated and can proceed in dealing with life. As well, it helps bring forth hidden emotions that have not been dealt with. For instance, at times when we are emotionally upset, we often do thorough house cleaning to distract ourselves, and suddenly begin to cry.

That is because by knowing you are upset and doing some thing like the housework that suddenling you dealt with emotions. With Tai Chi you wil learn to tell the difference in the insubstantial and substantial in other words what is real and not real. When dealing with these types of conflicts it is important to remember the basic principle of Tai Chi. If you use just simple strength of will, it doesn't work in the long run since you don't have real understanding. Don't try to fight the contradictions or casually think about them. You need to find a way that works for you to neutralize them. In Tai Chi many masters of this type of martial art recommend that during practice to visually use various postures against an adversary. This is a good way to properly use your qi. In Tai Chi remember less is more. With Tai Chi it is better to think about the long term then the short since the long term goals will change over time. So the process is the important thing not the goal.

Understanding The Concept Of A Water Fuel Cell Kit

By Alexis Jameson

Water fuel cell definition- It is important to understand exactly what water fuel cells are, before we can give consideration to water fuel cell kits. A water fuel cell can be defined as a device with perpetual motion, used during motor vehicle retrofitting.

Design purpose- The purpose of the devices' design is to permanently substitute gas with water as fuel source. A water fuel cell separates water into two main components- hydrogen aka water and oxygen. Hydrogen is the most important ingredient to the water fuel cell kit recipe, as it's the hydrogen that gets burned during energy generation which in turn sets your vehicle in motion.

Operations basics- Fuel cell kit operation consists out of a couple very simple to follow steps. Place the device in direct sun or bright lamp light. Bubbles will start to form and accumulate in the electrolyser and water test tubes. Keep an eye on the electrolysers' KOH levels as to ensure fluid levels stay constant. If there is a fluctuation in fluid levels, pure, clean water can be added tube marked as FC Water test tube, should electrolyser hydrogen fluid level rise. Its absolute essential that measurements of various fluid levels in the electrolyser be checked regularly and refilled accordingly. It takes a maximum of ten minutes for air purge into system to generate enough power to make fan spin. Fan should be left to spin as long as sun is shining.

No hassle tubing- Special, no hassle Anti-Siphon tubing will keep fluids in place, eliminating the need to tamper any further with the device once cells have been removed from sun or light.

Condensation and water build-up- Condensation and water build-up in the tubes leading into the fuel cell is a normal occurrence and can be cleared by just pulling relevant tubes out. Small amounts of pure water will not do any harm to the cell while a single drop op tap water will undoubtedly cause sever damage to the device.

More about Meyer- The first water fuel cell was patented by an American called Stanley Allen Meyer somewhere during the 1990's. Meyer suffered graved ill-luck with the lodgment of numerous law suits against him for dealerships sales and business rights offerings in Water Fuel Cell technology. Meyer was found guilty on 'gross egregious fraud" charges and ordered to pay two investors an astonishing US Dollars 25 000. 00 in 1996. He died on 21st March 1998 from cerebral aneurysm under very mysterious circumstances after dinner at a restaurant.

Fact stranger than fiction- Meyers' sudden death however lead conspiracy theorists to believe that he was poisoned by oil companies and the Government, who wanted to suppress the further development of this technology.

Water Fuel Cell Technology To Intensify Your Car?

By Alexis Jameson

If you imagine the water fuel cell technology cannot intensify your car, then you have to think again. It can bring a paradigm shift, but we bear the information and that you are now capable to buy these items for saving energy and cutting down gas bills by as much as 60%. They are quick to install, but folks just do not seem to know about them.

The person credited with the research into water fuel cells is Stanley Meyer. He was a US researcher who unfortunately died before he could see his idea come onto the market. In actual fact his claims that these cells could power a car were dismissed as being fraudulent as they went against the laws of thermodynamics. In 1996 a court in Ohio came to this conclusion!

Fortunately the concept of a perpetual energy source from water fuels cells did not die with Stanley Meyer when he sadly passed away in 1998. His idea was that the hydrogen and oxygen molecules would be split, the hydrogen would be used as the energy source and return to the system to reconstitute with oxygen molecules again creating water.

It would have been nice for Mr. Meyer, if he have survived to see his concept to fruition, but that's life! The fact that the court found their claims of fraud did not stop other researchers to explore the dynamics of ideas.

There are many speculations about the concept of water fuel cells, but it's reality and nobody can put their hands on them, not a big secret.

What is strange is that this alternative energy source for powering a car or other engines for that matter has not been fully accepted into the mainstream. Gas prices are very high, and this gas is the source of energy savings available, however, seems to be slow in adoption.

The advantages of using alternative energy sources are very important. We all know that. However, there seems to be a certain reluctance on the part of customers, probably by the myths that these cells reduces the operation of the car. Apparently not!

Gas prices are going to continue to increase even more in the future. The environment is being damaged quite dramatically, not only by pollutants from motor vehicles powered by gas, but also by the fact that fossil fuels are diminishing in supply, so more mining than ever is taking place in a search for this. This alternative energy solution, is ready and available, we just need to make use of it.

How Hybrid Cars can Reduce the Energy Crisis

By Colin Jones

It is said that not enough people are doing enough to struggle against the energy crisis. Hybrid cars can help, but probably not enough people are driving them. Here are a few problems related to the energy crisis and how hybrid cars can help.

The U.S. isn't doing enough really. The United States consumes more fossil fuels than any other country in the world. However, most people believe that all of our energy problems can be solved if we would only investigate further into the oil deposits in Alaska or if we exploited the latest oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico more.

Hybrid cars can result in us not having to use other sources of energy to keep the economy growing. Hybrid cars won't cause Americans to consume more fossil fuel. Instead, hybrid cars make Americans consume less fossil fuel.

Energy consumers just accept increasing gas prices. People used to be concerned that fuel prices are much higher now than they were years ago. Now, however, people just accept the higher prices. In the meantime, cars are getting bigger and bigger. Car manufacturers are making trucks and SUVs, which consume more gas at the higher prices.

These vehicles use more petrol, but you would never believe just how many people won't give up their gas-guzzling SUV. Hybrid vehicles do eventually cost their owners less to own than conventional cars do. So there is no need to worry about settling for being swindled by the oil economy.

Soon there could be an end to the "cheap oil period". Soon, we could all be in over our heads, because not only will we be in an fossil fuel crisis, but in a peak oil crisis too. During this peak oil crisis period, there will be gas shortages and natural gas shortages too. The major countries will need to compete against each another for whatever small amount of oil is left.

So everyone may have some problems, and countries may battle over who gets oil and who does not. The peak gas crisis can be staved off, if more people just purchased hybrid vehicles. Hybrid vehicles make it so that people do not always have to be looking for oil. And there are advances being made to hybrid cars everyday.

The plug-in hybrid vehicles, for example, might not even need oil whatsoever one day. So, just in case we do have an energy crisis one day, Americans ought really to be spending the intervening time to finding a answer to the impending oil crisis in America. Hybrid cars are the method to avoid the energy crisis, and if countries still want to compete with each other over gas, at least America will know they attempted to slow the impending crisis by investing in hybrid cars.

So, that's it then. The America's mass adoption of hybrid cars would ensure that Americans need less fuel. But Americans also have yet to profit from the huge amount of money being made from the manufacture of hybrid cars. The majority of popular hybrid cars come from Japan. Therefore, Americans need to attract that money back into the country by making hybrids at home and do something about the current energy crisis at the same time.

Coating Your Bathroom For The Greater Good

By Tal Potishman

Bathroom coatings have been around for quite some time, however have only technologically improved in their performance in recent years. Before they had the appearance of varnish-like silicon products. Nowadays they are more akin to today's hydrophobic layers, engineered at molecular level. They have improved so much, that now consumers can be assured that they will be protected from limescale, soap scum and other dirt particles.

A major reason why many people choose to invest in coating their bathroom is the act that they will have to clean less. Coating prevents the build up of dirt or lime, thus do not need cleaning products to keep the surfaces clean. In fact, many manufacturers actively advise people who have coating to avoid using chemical cleaners as they can damage the surface.

So how do coated surfaces compare to other bathroom surfaces? Other bathroom surfaces are hydrophilic. This allows or lime and other sorts of particles to build up and sit on the surface. If neglected over a period of time, these can create a corrosive process that can cause damage at molecular level. You will not have this problem with coatings as they act to repel these particles. The coatings act to keep lime and other particles from building up.

What is the difference?

The statistics have reported that around 46 million every year is reckoned to be spent specifically on bathroom cleaners, plus another 117 million on liquid bleach and disinfectants and 14 million on limescale removers. These are huge figures, and there is no doubt that if even a proportion of this could be used instead on protective coatings in the bathroom - the impact on the environment will be significant.

So how does this relate to the environment?

There are many reasons as to why you should use protective coating in your bathroom. If you are concerned about the environment, using coating will mean that you will not need to use chemical cleaning products any more. Coating prevents harmful chemicals from being released into the atmosphere.

Coating your bathroom will not only help the environment considerably, but will also reduce your time spent in cleaning. This will have a positive impact on your household bills, as you will be able to downgrade your expenditure on cleaning products, As more household owners become aware of their actions impacting the environment, more are seeking ways in which they can make their actions positive.

It is obvious that most consumers do not prioritise how eco-friendly the product will be when making a decision. It's style, function and price are all important factors in the decision-making process. The challenge facing most manufacturers today is how to integrate the eco advantage of this product without compromising on another very important factor; price.

It should be noted that customers will not be the only ones that will benefit from using coatings in their bathroom. There is also a corporate and social responsibility involved. If more businesses started using coatings in their bathrooms the impact on the environment will be huge.

Special tubing- Special Anti-Siphon tubes will keep fluids in allocated areas, so there is absolutely no need to do anything when the unit is removed from the sun or light.

Condensation- If condensation collects in tubes leading into the fuel cell, the tube can merely be pulled and water cleared out. On the one hand a very small amount of pure, clean water will not do any harm to the fuel cell, while on the other hand the smallest of tap water drop will cause irrefutable harm to the fuel cell kit.

Inventor- The very first water fuel cell was invented by Stanley Allen Meyer from America. Meyer had numerous law suits against him in terms of dealerships he sold, offering the right to do business in Water Fuel Cell technology. He was found guilty of 'gross egregious fraud" and ordered to repay two investors US Dollars 25 000. 00 in 1996. Meyer died of cerebral aneurysm on the 21st March 1998 after supper at a restaurant.

Fact stranger than fiction- Meyers' sudden death however lead conspiracy theorists to believe that he was poisoned by oil companies and the Government, who wanted to suppress the further development of this technology.

Are You Storing Your Biodiesel Properly?

By Bella Holly

With the warmer months now upon us a lot of us will be producing and storing biodiesel again. Your storage container should be considered another important piece of biodiesel fuel equipment. Choosing the right storage container and conditions will help you store your fuel safer and for longer periods of time.

The life of biodiesel can be increased if it is stored in a container with limited "head space." Also the biodiesel containers should be protected from the weather and direct sunlight. Long term storage in damp conditions of a partially filled container can lead to condensation. Top up your fuel container often, even if that means blending it with another batch of fuel. This should be done especially in the rainy winter months or when the fuel is not being used. Corrosion of metal fuel tanks can occur due to the condensed moisture that accumulates.

Water condensation also creates a good environment for the growth of bacteria and fungi which feed on the biodiesel hydrocarbons. These organisms accumulate and grow over periods of time and resemble a film or slime. Because biodiesel is such a strong solvent it can cause the slime to separate from the tank walls. This free floating slime can clog fuel filters which in turn will cause the engine to stop suddenly.

There are several products available for sale called biocides that can kill or prevent this growth. Biocides are chemicals that kill bacteria and fungi that are growing in the fuel tanks. The biocides will not interfere with the combustion of the fuel or effect the way the engine operates. You must remember that biocides are very toxic and should only be used as the manufacturer recommends.

With proper precautions your biodiesel can be stored algae free and for long periods of time. Sunlight and water are your fuels number one enemy; by keeping them away you keep your fuel quality high.

What The Wind Does For You

By Brit Xavier

With all the concerns about improving the planet these days, many more people are searching for alternatives when it comes to powering their homes and businesses. While there are a number of companies exploring solar energy, the power of the wind has been in practical use for a very long time. From the first windmill that harnessed the wind's energy to grind out wheat to the wind generator farms of today, this abundant source of renewable energy has gone from uses in business, to many residential applications.

While the wind is not always plentiful or abundant if you have at least a breeze of more than 10 MPH, it's enough to power some low voltage turbines. You can expect to cut your utility bill by 50-90%, with some average power bills ranging from $8-$15 for most of the year. Where it's cooler and an air conditioning unit is used less often or not at all, this could be your electric bill throughout the year.

The typical home uses a little under 9000 KWh of electricity a year, averaging around 780 a month. Depending on your individual needs and the continued wind speed in your location, a wind turbine of only 5-15 kilowatts would cut this consumption down measureably.

Given the very nature of wind turbines, one should realize that it's necessary to have an adequate amount of space. In fact, one should ideally have more or less an acre of land. Remember, even small wind turbines which are mounted on towers measuring a foot or less, also require a suitable amount of space.

Unfortunately, if you live in an area where the average wind speed is less than 10mph, then you need to take note of the fact that a wind turbine may not be ideal. On the other hand, it is interesting to note that wind powered homes can be found in forty seven states. The many of these however are located in the Northeast and the Midwest.

The undeniable fact is; wind generators benefit the environment in more ways than one because not only do they reduce ambient noise, but they also reduce the demand for grid supplied electricity. Nowadays, it has become common practice for electricity companies to actually pay people for any excess electricity they may have. For many people, it is almost unbelievable when they first see their electric meters spinning backwards, knowing that they are not only being paid for it but are also helping to save the environment.

Many more companies are beginning to realize the profitability of wind turbine electricity. You see more and more wind farms springing up all over the country, and some farmers are beginning to turn their attentions to the wind as a viable source of income. It seems that the stronger the wind, the more wind power products spring up.

Whether you decide to start utilizing this endless supply of energy, or whether you start making a point of turning out the lights whenever you're not using them, it's critical that we all start doing our share in order to reduce the amount of damage being caused to the planet. The bottom line is; there are many little things we can do in order to minimize the impact we have on this amazing world.

The Purpose Of Wind And Solar Power Generator

By Cherry Williams

The world population has grown, industrialization has advanced and our energy needs have also exploded in tandem. To be sure, our way of life has changed for the better overall but a re-assessment of the current fuel scenario as compared to that in the old days is in order. As much as we are used to and being comfortable with oil, coal and gas, we would be well-served to be sounding out alternative fuel sources of the earth for energy.

Truth be told, we have derived great benefits from our traditional fuels but there's not a negative side-effect of modernization larger than that of the toll our energy wastes have taken on the environment. Hurricanes, typhoons, droughts, floods, melting icebergs, shriveling forests, global warming and so forth are but natural consequences of our own doing. The fact of the matter is every one of us has a part in them directly or indirectly.

It isn't Molecular Science or Nuclear Physics. Everybody knows that conservation is the obvious way of cutting down on fuel consumption. The resultant drop in demand will of course ultimately lead to reduction in both cost and pollution. Besides that, there need to be other measures to cope with the ever-increasing appetite for fuel in this industrialized age. There need to alternative sources of energy. Not just that, they have to be green too!

Besides money, there are other costs associated with energy. Fuel wastes and the ravaging of our natural habitat as a result of non-renewable energy exploration are the prime culprits in this regard. As we increasingly consume fuel and deplete the reserves of oil, coal and gas, it will continue to get worse unless breakthrough efforts are garnered across the entire populace wherever possible to really make an impact.

The obvious answer here is renewable energy. There are a variety of ways to tap the earth for energy. The ones with the greatest reach are Wind and Solar Power Home generation. They can be handily decentralized into many small-scale grids or even individual stand-alone set-ups whereupon private homes would be able to join in on the energy crusade. Yes, any home can put up its very own wind and solar power generators through DIY and it's a lot easier than most people think.

There's no shortage of choices and options for home-DIY Wind and Solar Power Home set-ups and there must be a right one for anyone who's ideally a landed house dweller with some real-estate compound. Guides and handbooks are widely retailed over the internet ranging from very basic units to full-fledged systems and scams have inevitably pervaded so watch out. Information is abundantly available over the internet to help sieve out the bad hats but by and large, the ones that are featured by specialty or review sites are safe bets.

Be In Control Of Your Own Energy! Use Wind Power!

By Allen Anderson

Wind energy has been something many people have not yet realized its full potential. Wind power systems have gotten very little public exposure among the media and still is not a household topic in discussion. Although, people are starting to take notice. It is usually solar energy that is known to be the premier alternative energy source. Many people are are starting to teach themselves how to make solar energy. What most people dont know is that it is equally as easy and cost effective to build a wind turbine.

Why should we be interested in wind power? Wind power is something that we have an unlimited resource. In a day and age today where we keep wondering if well have enough energy for our childrens children, wind energy gives us a clear cut solution. If we want to protect the earth as well as have energy for the future we must look towards alternative energy, ones that are renewable sources and non threatening to our planet. Wind power has proven to have many advantages:

Free source of energy - All of the power is generate from wind energy which as we all know comes from wind, something that we can collect for free and generate usable energy from it. No environmental hazards - The generation of wind power is extremely environment-friendly. There are no harmful gasses that may pollute the earth.

Cost-effective - The only thing you are going to be paying for is the initial cost of the wind power system and its installation. Moreover, there remains no worry of sky-rocketing electricity bills. You could even learn how to make a windmill to cut costs even more!.

Self-dependent source " You are able to be your own energy producer not having to rely on other utility companies to supply you with power.

So how do we make power from wind?

Wind turbines are what makes it possible to create power from wind. Wind turbines takes wind energy and converts it into mechanical energy which can then be converted into electrical energy. A wind generator is then used to convert the energy into electrical useable energy.

What can we use wind power for?

The uses of wind power are many. An example is: Grinding grains and stones.

By employing a wind turbine at your home or farm, you definitely make the world a better place. Wind power eliminates or at least reduces the need and dependence of fuel which is one step closer to fixing our energy problems. The now solution is wind and solar energy.

Electricity And Its Origins

By Shaun Ivan McDonald

Electricity, as we all know is an extremely diverse and flexible energy form. It has been adapted over the last 200 or so years to the point where we can now use it for pretty much anything. One of the first applications of electrical power that was publicly available was LED lighting when the first incandescent light bulb was invented in the 1870s.

The introduction of electricity to society has introduced some new household hazards; however it did eradicate some of the old ones like the naked flames of the gas lighting that was widely used up until that point.

The Joule heating process takes place in light bulbs, and also in electric heating. Many people have condemned electric heating as uneconomic because effectively, heat energy is being used (in power stations) on mass to create heat for houses.

Denmark (among a few other countries) has issued a new law restricting electric heating use in new buildings, if allowed at all. As well as heating, electricity provides a hugely beneficial source of refrigeration. As temperatures get hotter, the demand for air conditioning gets higher, increasing the amount of energy used, and so climate change is increasing in a snowball effect.

Another area that depends on electricity to function is telecommunication. The electric telegraph was in fact one of the first ways in which electricity was used successfully.

Global communication was made possible in the 1860s with the invention of intercontinental telegraph systems, followed shortly by a transatlantic telegraph system. More recently, fibre optics and satellite communication have taken a large share of the communications market, but without electricity both would be rendered useless.

Electromagnetism is most visibly apparent in the electric motor which of course provides an efficient and clean power motive. A motor that stays in one place, like a winch can easily be powered by a stationary power supply, but a moving motor like an electric car or scooter must carry its power supply along with it in the form of a battery, or it can gain electrical charge from sliding contact like with a pantograph.

Perhaps the most important invention of the 1900s is the transistor. It is a vital part of all modern electrical circuits and a modern integrated circuit may contain several billion miniaturised transistors in a region of only a few centimetres squared.

Coating Your Bathroom For The Greater Good

By Tal Potishman

Bathroom coatings are not a new phenomenon as they have been around for many years. However, it is only recently that its true benefits are starting to be noticed. Much of the reasoning behind this is due to their improvement in performance transforming from varnish-like silicon products to today's hydrophobic layers, engineered at molecular level. Applying coating to your bathroom will not only ensure that you are protected from lime scale, but also other particles.

The difference between the two is that other bathroom surfaces are hydrophilic. This allows for lime and other deposits to build up and sit on the surface. These can prove to be quite corrosive over a period of time and cause quite a bit of damage at molecular level. This is why coatings are increasingly becoming more practical. The coating works to repel any lime or dirt build up. Thus saves you alot of time and stress over cleaning.

What is the actual difference?

It has been reported that around 46 million every year is spent specifically on bathroom cleaners. In addition, another 117 million on liquid bleach and disinfectants and 14 million on limescale removers. These are staggering figures, and ones that should be taken seriously. If we started using even a proportion of these on coatings instead, think of the impact we could have on the environment.

So how does this affect the environment?

There are many reasons as to why you should use protective coating in your bathroom. If you are concerned about the environment, using coating will mean that you will not need to use chemical cleaning products any more. Coating prevents harmful chemicals from being released into the atmosphere.

Therefore, using coating will not only have a positive impact on the environment, but it will also reduce your time spent in cleaning. Your household bills will also be reduced as you will not require as many cleaning products. Most household owners when making a new purchase rarely consider the impact their decision may make on the environment. However, with increasing awareness of the environment this view is now starting to change.

How eco-friendly a product will be on the environment is usually the last thing on people's minds when they are making a purchase. The most important factors usually include the price, functionality, and its appearance. The challenge now lies with manufacturers to integrate the eco-friendliness of the product with the price.

It should be noted that customers will not be the only ones that will benefit from using coatings in their bathroom. There is also a corporate and social responsibility involved. If more businesses started using coatings in their bathrooms the impact on the environment will be huge.

Homemade Energy - Dream Or Reality?

By Peter Sharnoff

Energy crisis is upon us, whether we like it or not. And by the looks of it, it's here to stay. The main reason for this is our dependence on fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are non-renewable resources which means they are in limited supply. Some day, in the not so distant future, they will run out. Then what happens?

We will have to find alternative energy resources and we should start looking today. Renewable sources of energy are, of course, the answer. As the name suggests they are renewable, meaning available in unlimited supply. Solar and wind energy, for example.

Solar and wind energy are two of the most abundant energy sources available on our planet. They are clean, nonpolluting, available almost anywhere, and what is very important - free.

These options are particularly practical for homeowners. People don't know how easy and cheap it is nowadays to make your own electricity at home. Costly grid electricity, that is made mostly from coal, can be quite easily replaced by much cheaper renewable energy sources.

How much can this lower your power bill? By using renewable alternatives homeowners can achieve significant reduction in their power bills, up to 80%. Some who are really keen can even start living completely of the grid. Now imagine that - free electricity.

The main problem in using renewable energy sources is usually the cost of the equipment. It's true, pre-made solar and wind power systems for household use are quite pricey. But why buy, if you can do it yourself for a fraction of the cost.

It's true, you can build your own solar and/or wind power generator, even for less than $200. What you need is an easy to follow step-by-step guide and some D-I-Y skills. It's really not that hard.

Save Money And Energy By Recycling

By James Thomson

The following article presents the very latest information on why recycling is so important. If you have a particular interest in recycling, then this informative article is required reading.

Scrap metals are well sought after by smelters, and those plastic bottles aren't just remade into more plastic bottles. Some of the postings are from other sites. I'll try to give credit where its due. If you see any unidentified Photos please let me know so I can give the photographer proper credit or even remove them if need be.

Recycling helps in raising awareness of this 'issue' because 'as more and more people are asked to separate their garbage and see the "green" bin brimming with packets, cartons, and plastic pots (all nicely rinsed please) etc.

You may not consider everything you just read to be crucial information about why recycling is so important. But don't be surprised if you find yourself recalling and using this very information in the next few days.

Recycling collections for your business can be easy to set up, with a number of service providers offering flexible collection options to suit your needs. Reducing, reusing and recycling your waste could lower your waste collection and disposal bills. Recycling thus makes a positive contribution to the global conservation of energy and resources and, in the process, employs a large, if predominantly unskilled, workforce.

There are also a number of state and federal requirements for businesses that collect, transport, refurbish or recycle electronics and component parts. These regulations are designed to protect worker safety and prevent pollution.

Financial benefits come from reduced tonnage to landfill and less to pay in landfill taxes, up recently by 11 a tonne. By recycling, the cereal company earns a rebate to offset its already reducing landfill tax. I live in Newcastle on the east coast of Australia and work part-time in threatened species conservation and spend the other part. We are passionate about conservation and the environment.

That's how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news about why recycling is so important.

Tap Into The Power of DIY Solar Energy and DIY Wind Power

By Sandy Hill

Television sets, computers, hot water heaters, and practically any other electrical appliance you can think of, can now be run solely on electricity which has been generated from wind or sun. By installing solar panels or a wind turbine, both homes and businesses can take full advantage of the earth's most abundant natural resources.

Thanks to technology continuously evolving, both solar energy and wind energy are now well within reach of the average person. In fact, the situation has improved to such an extent, that it's now possible to make your very own solar power panel or wind turbine, and it can be done for under $200.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Solar Power

Rest assured, as far as solar power is concerned, there are far more "pros" than there are "cons"

Advantages:

Solar energy costs nothing

It doesn't pollute

Electricity is generated silently

Solar panels almost never require maintenance

Excess power can be stored in batteries

Against:

Solar power systems are unreliable when the sun is hidden behind clouds

Solar panels can often be very costly

Apart from the fact that a solar power system will soon have paid for itself, there's a host of other reasons as well, why solar energy is ideal for both homes and businesses.

Taking advantage of free renewable energy is far easier than what most people believe.

With so many technological advancements, nobody has a valid excuse anymore as to why they cannot change over to wind or solar power. After all, both are now well within the average person's reach and there's an abundance of books and other resources which can explain exactly how the two systems work. Relying on wind or sun for our energy needs, poses no threat to the environment and in all probability, wind turbines and solar power systems will be with us for many years to come, especially when one considers the current situation as far as environmental issues are concerned.

A shortage of fossil fuels, coupled with well documented global warming issues really should be reason enough for us to be looking into the possibilities of renewable energy. Of course, apart from reducing your carbon footprint, you also stand to make significant financial savings as well, should you decide to switch over to wind power or solar power. In light of all this, we would like to advise everyone to look into the possibilities of using a cleaner and greener form of energy.

However, sun rays dilute when it enters the earth's atmosphere

We'll start with the cons. One of the more obvious disadvantages is that you need the sun's rays in order to use solar energy. If you are in a location on this great planet where there is not much sunlight, you may not be able to use this source of energy.

Your house roof may not be at a good angle for collecting solar energy, which would make installation on your roof less effective or in some cases, not possible. This can pose a big problem for those wishing to convert to solar energy.

There are many benifits in using solar energy too You pay less overall for solar energy than you do for electric heating. That is one of the biggest advantages of solar energy. By just using solar energy you can save a lot of money on heaters. In return you will get lower electric bills and it also means that you dont have to maintain heaters.

Remote areas are great for solar energy. There are remote areas where power companies have no means to access your home. Solar power is a great way to generate energy for your heating, electric and even cooking needs.

You pay less overall for solar energy than you do for electric heating. That is a big advantage of solar energy. By just using solar energy you can save a lot of money on heaters. In return you will get lower electric bills and it also means that you dont have to maintain heaters.

Desalination of water is a great use of solar energy if you are in an area where fresh water is scarce. Solar energy evaporates brine and leaves the salt crystals in the bottom of the basin. The water condenses back in another basin where it is now drinkable.

Solar power comes from the sun. Solar energy is very helpful for the environment. However, when the rays emitted from the sun enters earth's atmosphere, it dilutes quite a lot

We'll start with the cons. Dilution of solar energy is the biggest fault in this source of power. This means you have to have a lot of solar collectors installed around your house. Solar energy may be very cheap but the solar collectors are relatively expensive and require maintenance in order to work properly and efficiently.

Sometimes, roofs on houses do not have a good angle for collecting sunlight, making your overall energy amount lower. This can pose a big problem for those wishing to convert to solar energy.

There are many benifits in using solar energy too A great advantage is you'll almost never run out of a source of energy This can shave off quite a hefty sum of money for your overall bill!

Wind Power Systems For The Energy Conscious Home Owner

By Denzil De Vries

Adding a source of alternative energy to your family's energy solutions is good for the environment, your wallet and makes a statement of your commitment to environmental progress. Wind power systems can cut your power bill and create awareness in your community.

A turbine powered wind system will work on a grid that sends electricity back to a central control panel to be converted to energy. Running your wind power system within the public grid power system has added benefits. When your wind power is intermittent you can pull power from the public grid. Rural and developing areas will benefit greatly from an off the grid wind power system. These systems will usually include back of power in either the form of solar panels or diesel generators.

If you choose to operate a wind power system off the grid you will generally pay a bit more to start off and obviously not have access to the public power. In rural or developing areas this is often the only option. There will be a few additional pieces of hardware that will need to be included for an off the grid system. But once wind power systems are in place, the cost recovery is rapid.

There will be a wind turbine wired to a control box that conducts the charging of a large bank of deep cycle batteries. An inverter will pull the electricity from the batteries and covert it to household electricity. Miscellaneous devices like breakers, lighting arrestors and fuses will be needed as well.

For most modern households, an on grid system is the way to go. Wind turbines will take a place in landscape design and aesthetics will be an added benefit of alternative energy production through wind turbines. The added benefit of tax breaks and rebate incentives will guide this trend.

To get an idea of what type of rebates and programs are available in your area visit your local government website. Also call your current power provider and ask for educational references on alternative power for homeowners.

Think about the areas around you that already incorporate wind turbines for energy production. Talk to people who use domestic small wind power systems. Another easy place to start is with an alternative energy contractor. Many contractors will offer free consultations, especially in a down economy.

Trash Removal Arizona

By Carmela Fisher

There are many different ways we get rid of junk. One way is by hiring someone else to do it for you. You can find a trash removal company in Arizona as easy as finding a pizza place.

Banding together to assign specific dates and areas to clean up trash can be noticed through local publications, relevant websites, and online message boards. A public fund should be created to provide the base equipment necessary for groups to further their cleaning efforts, i.e. gloves, bags. Congregation to clean up trash should be on a voluntary basis and be made available to those seeking to add to their community service hour requirements.

One reason for the prevalence of trash is due to a dearth of trash bins. Accordingly, there should be a marked increase in trash bins implementation. Such addition should be relegated to areas that are heavily frequented.

In many community neighborhoods cities have invested in large recycling containers that mimic trashcans. Each house is equipped with a large recycling container that usually has a serial number on it. These containers are to be left at the house if the renter moves out.

In Prescott, Arizona, recycling containers can be added to your house for an additional fee. I do not agree with this because; if the city is trying to get people to recycle, then why charge them for it? Most people do not want to pay to do something good. In fact, most would rather be lazy, and not pay for a thing.

Fees for recycle containers are charged per container, by the month. This type of payment will especially make a person not want to participate in recycling. Who wants an extra payment added to their monthly bills? Not many people would want this, so I think it is not such a good idea to charge individuals for doing something good.

Of course, certain items cannot be recycled in the containers such as, rocks, dirt, pillows or furniture, liquids or hazardous materials, tires, oil, etc. If items like these are placed into the recycle container, it will not be picked up by the city. It is safe to check and see what is recyclable before placing it into the containers.

In community colleges and universities, rather than ONLY having a trashcan, a recycle can would be a plus. There are soda machines and snack machines all over college campuses. If there was a recycle can next to the trash can that had a sign on it saying something such as, "plastic bottles only" or, "cans only", this would motivate students to recycle.

People take advantage of the nice weather and want to get rid of everything they haven't used the past year. Some choose to use a trash removal company to take this garbage away for them. This saves time and makes their lives a lot easier.

You simply cannot throw away your computer or broken dishwasher. A lot of people have the dilemma of getting rid of these heavy big objects that are just taking up space. By using a trash removal service, this will solve that problem and put your mind at ease.

Whether it be remodeling, spring cleaning, or simply just getting rid of some of your trash, hiring a trash removal company is a great idea. Looking for these companies are as easy as opening a phone book or looking online. So next time you need to do that cleaning, remember there is always help to take away the trash.

High Efficiency Boilers

By Tal Potishman

As knowledge of the dangers of global warming become more widespread, the need to take greater care of our environment is more relevant than ever. There are numerous factors that are all contributing to the unhealthy environment we are living in. Some of these include greenhouse gases to extreme weather conditions.

An important part of this is the fact that an an estimated 25% of the UK's carbon emissions come from our own homes. Furthermore, 70% of these emissions come from the energy we use to provide heat and hot water. So how can we change this? This is where high efficiency boilers come into play. High efficiency boilers are capable of making drastic change to the environment, if everyone has one installed in their homes. For one thing, they are 90% more efficient, meaning that over 90% of gas consumed when the burner is firing is converted into heat for the heating and hot water system.

If we compare this to many of the older boilers, it will be found that the older boilers operate at a 70-75% efficiency, some even being as low as 50%. Therefore, the older boilers have much more of a negative impact on the environment in comparison to high efficiency boilers.

Therefore if you are faced with a choice to either repair or replace your boiler system, you will need to think about a number of factors. If you have the correct information, then you should be able to make a well-informed decision based on your individual circumstances.

The first consideration will be the cost factor. Most home-owners are deterred from installing a high efficiency boiler due to the high installation charges and the cost of the appliance. They would prefer to keep spending a little more money to repair the boiler rather than replace the whole thing all together. However, it is important to weigh the short-term costs against the long-term costs. If your boiler is not that old, than it can be repaired and have its efficiency improved. However, it might not be worth investing in money to repair a faulty boiler, as it may still create problems for you further down the line. You may end up spending more money on repairing the boiler rather than buying a new one.

As well as saving money on fuel bills, installing a high efficiency boiler will mean that you would be helping the government's target of reducing carbon emissions by 20% by 2010.

How much money could I potentially save?

If you decide to go for a high efficiency boiler, you may be looking at saving between 190 and 240 a year or around one third of your heating bills straight away. In addition, installing the correct heating controls could potentially save you up to 40% of your bills.

You should note that the average lifespan of a boiler is 10-15 years. If you feel that your boiler is about to give in, you should shop around for a new high efficiency boiler; one with all the right heating controls to make a huge difference to your heating bills.

Lower Power And Cooling Costs In Your Computer Room

By Rex Ternalski

First of all " get rid of all the old cables that youre not using under your floor. This is always a problem thats overlooked, and can be one of the biggest problems for computer rooms. The unused cables are just sitting there collecting dust and very effectively blocking the airflow beneath your floor. Theyre also making quite a mess down there, since theyre probably mixed in with a lot of other power and communications cables too.

Secondly, you need to properly arrange your racks and other equipment into hot/cold isles, which will help you save a significantly amount in cooling costs, and will especially help where blade servers or other high-heat equipment is running. Make sure that you also have blanking panels in use throughout the empty cabinet areas. Theres no point in cooling empty spaces, right? If you can effectively manage the air flow in your computer room, you will save a significant amount of money from cooling costs.

If you havent already, take a look at virtualization, which can give you another increase in savings. The power consumption of a processor chip is nearly linear at 0-50% utilization. But at 50-75% utilization, there is incremental power consumption. Because virtualization has greatly matured recently, it may be a great solution for server consolidation.

Lastly, make sure you provision you power correctly. This can have a great effect on energy costs. Right now you might just be adding up the tags on the backs of the power supplies to provision. If so, youre likely in overkill mode. Remember that the numbers on the labels are for worst-case scenarios. Youre probably really only using about 1/3 or even 1/2 that amount.

Did you know that some organizations are actually going the extra mile (yes, pun intended) and moving their whole data centers to places where electricity is cheaper? That tells you how expensive power is! Thats why we definitely need to look at improving our energy use in these areas.

Affects that you can expect from using a wind turbine in your home

By John Ashbury

There are many things to consider if you want to install a wind turbine system in your home. There are many questions that people ask about these types of systems. Anyone can install this type of system but there are things to think about prior to beginning the project.

First of all you should know that there are regulations set out by the government that compel electricity companies to connect to wind turbine systems and so, if you are wanting to install one in your home, you should have a talk with your electricity supplier. They must work with you and not against you and connect the system to your home. When it comes to getting the proper approvals from the utility company, the electricity company should be able to sort that all out for you. They will also be able to ensure that the system is installed correctly and is up to code.

Many prospective prospective owners are concerned about the wiring in their homes and fear that in order to install the system they will need to interfere with their existing wiring. But this is not the case. Wind turbine systems do not affect the wiring in your home in the least and are simply fitted to your home.

When you have decided to go ahead and have a wind powered system installed in your home the electricity company will then install an additional meter next to your regular electricity meter. This new one will measure the amount of energy that the electricity company is buying from your turbine.

In order to install a wind turbine in your home you will need a tower. This will need to be between eighty and one-hundred-and-twenty feet high and is, in most instances, supplied along with the wind turbine when you purchase the system. The reason you need a tall wind turbine is because the stronger wind that the system needs to generate the energy is not usually close to the ground but higher up.

You will be able to choose between many different types of towers when you decide to have a wind turbine installed for the purpose of supplementing your energy needs in your home. Some are made from guyed lattice and other are hinged towers. All the different types have their own advantages. The lattice one is popular because it is highly economical and good value for money. The hinged is popular because it is easy to install and also is easily accessed for maintenance purposes.

To recap, wind powered systems will not require you to alter the wiring in your home at all. They are simply fitted to your house without affecting any of the wiring whatsoever.

You should plan on installing a tall tower for your electricity because the higher the tower is the more wind it will get. In addition, don't think that your electricity company will not allow you to install a wind powered system. Anyone can install a system like this but they need to work with their utility company to make it happen properly.

What Is a Windmill and How Can I Build One?

By Allen Anderson

Understanding how to make a windmill means understanding how it works. They produce this energy by using mechanical energy that produces electrical energy. The windmill is a very useful machine in times of energy crisis. The windmill started producing electricity lately; it used to be a popular method for pumping water and towing boats. People have used their knowledge of how to build a windmill to create wind energy for decades.

Wind power is something that should be invested in, especially in these economic and environmental times. We should strive to make the world a better place and alternative energy is a step in the right direction in doing so. The windmill proves to be an economical option, especially in farms and in the countryside. A windmill may not be the optimum solution in a highly-populated area.

There are two important pre-requisites for a windmill.

The first pre-requisite is that you have at least an acre of space dedicated to the spot of where you are going to place your windmill.

This is so because you want to allow the windmill blades to capture enough wind power for it to function properly.

Another thing to keep in mind when installing your windmill is to be sure your area has the average wind speed of 11 miles per hour blowing through your neighborhood. If you live in areas where there are skyscrapers or high-rise buildings that may interfere with wind, you may want to be sure you have an area where it wont be blocked by such. You can easily find research on the wind speed in your area to find out if you meet these pre-requisites.

Here are the components of a windmill.

Blades: These are typically made of wood or plastic, and obviously can withstand high wind speeds.

Tower: The tower component is there to hold the system high enough for it to capture wind so it can take it and convert it into wind energy.

Shaft: The shaft is an integral part which connects the blades to the tower as well as allowing for the blades to rotate smoothly.

Base: The base of the windmill is the foundation of the whole system which holds the tower and the blades.

Windmills are set up how? Nowadays you can find ready-to-install windmill kits online.

Find a review of great guides such as Green DIY Energy review to see if it fits your needs in helping you build your own wind energy system today.

How Do You Create Free Energy For Your Home?

By Dana Goldberg

In order to get started, free energy should be defined Free energy is when the price of making energy is much smaller then the created energy. Common examples of free energy are solar and wind, and some more unique ones are radiant and centrifugal force.

New invention ideas must be kept very secret until you get a patent on them. Because if you don't then your idea could be stolen and you would not be able to do anything about it.

Ambient heat can be confusing if you do not know exactly what it is and how it works. It takes time for someone to explain it to you. And you must have knowledge of what it is and how it works.

Highly is a very highly available component of the water molecule H2O. Hydrogen can be separated from H2O and used as a fuel by using electrolysis. Many processes that separate hydrogen from water that don't use much electricity are available, and as a result, hydrogen is a very efficient fuel for use in the future.

Magnetism has interested people for centuries and can be considered a little-understood but plentiful source of power. Stars and planets create magnetic fields, which can be tapped by us as an infinite but meterless energy source. Over the past couple of hundred years many famous scientists have studied magnetism, which has had a decisive impact on modern telecommunications and on society as a whole.

But we have certainly not seen the last of the effects of magnetism on our society. Recent decades have been marked by new developments which often appear to run counter to our understanding of the basic principles which underly natural forces. One new device is the Zero Point magnetic generator; its producers state that its energy output will exceed its input. In other words, this would be the perpetual motion machine that many people have long dreamed of creating.

Wind Power Electricity - A Viable Alternative To Fossil Fuels ?

By Denzil De Vries

Wind power electricity is generated on wind farms scattered across the pastoral lands of the United States. In a time when increasing dependence on foreign oil is wreaking havoc on politics as usual, wind power is gaining more attention for its promise of energy independence.

Wind farms worldwide are looking to leaders in wind energy. The largest wind farm is currently planted in Texas in the United States and houses over 400 wind turbines. The farm produces enough energy yearly to power over 200,000 homes. Forward thinkers around the world have taken the lead and initiated the use of wind power in their backyards. Wind power electricity is produced on these private wind farms and then sold and fed into the public power grid. It should be made clear that wind power is not the sole solution to the energy crisis. It is one piece of a larger solution that must include additional energy sources like solar and the continued use of fossil fuel based energy.

The move towards wind powered electricity has been in the works for some time. Australia currently has 42 wind farms. The largest of the 42 produces over 230 MW of energy annually. European nations and those in the United Kingdom are making marked efforts to move toward energy independence through wind. Other countries investing in the new technology are the Philippines, Morocco and Brazil.

The major difference with wind power and gas or coal based power is in the funding and operation of the initiatives. Most wind farms are privately owned by entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. While the wind farm owners receive tax breaks for producing clean energy, the money generally has to come from a private source for start up and maintenance costs.

More of the world can be powered by wind energy than most people believe is possible. The electricity produced by wind can not be viewed as a sole source of energy. Viewed as part of a multi approach plan to filling energy needs the power of wind generated electricity is much more apparent.

Alternative energy enthusiasts and activists are investing in small wind turbines to fuel their homes, schools, and businesses. As more and more people explore alternative energy solutions such as wind power electricity, look for favorable government loans, tax rebates and credits to benefit those willing to participating in alternative energy programs.

Wind energy and alternative energy sources will work best when understood on both macro and micro scales. Small and mid size organizations might benefit more from a small wind turbine as opposed to depending on the power company to secure alternative energies for them. We need to create alternative energy on a small scale and demand that this trend be replicated on the larger scale.

Global Warming Issues: Is It Too Late?

By Daniel Staines

The following article includes pertinent information that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood about the natural causes of global warming. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding if necessary.

Carbon capture and sequestration at coal-fired power plants might raise costs for electricity as little as one to three cents per kilowatt-hour, according to a special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. These incremental costs imply far less than 1 percent of the world's annual income to convert to a clean power grid.

Global warming has unfortunately become such a highly politicized issue that most of the time the information that people get is biased. However one individual challenged this view and said that careful studies indicate that information people had in 2008 was comparable to that in 1988 and yet people have not changed.

How can you put a limit on learning more? The next section may contain that one little bit of wisdom that changes everything.

Such global warming will cause sea level to rise, and is expected to increase the intensity of extreme weather events and to change the amount/pattern of precipitation. Climate change is the greatest environmental challenge facing the world today. Rising global temperatures will bring changes in weather patterns, rising sea levels and increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather.

Global warming is an increase in the average temperature of Earth's surface. Since the late 1800's, the global average temperature has increased about 0.7 to 1.4 degrees F (0.4 to 0.8 degrees C). Global warming is real, it is happening already and the anticipated consequences are unacceptable. The evidence is overwhelming and undeniable. Global warming is a very difficult problem to fix. People are having a hard time agreeing on what to do about it. Global warming is having a dramatic impact on our lives. Put simply, our planet is heating up at a rate which in unsustainable.

Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) allows the power sector to continue to use coal, the most available and affordable fossil fuel. However, the necessary investments are very large. Carbon-dioxide emissions result from other, generally beneficial acts, such as burning coal to keep warm, burning kerosene to cook, or burning gas to transport people. The benefits of fossil fuels must be weighed against the costs of global warming. Carbon dioxide has increased from the 1958 reading of 315 to 385 parts per million in 2008. But, despite the increases, it is still only a trace gas in the atmosphere.

That's how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news about the natural causes of global warming.

Is Global Warming And Climate Change Real?

By Tony Donaldson

Imagine the next time you join a discussion about global warming causes. When you start sharing the fascinating global warming facts below, your friends will be absolutely amazed.

Global warming throws all that historical data out the window. Global warming, even most sceptics have concluded, is the real deal, and human activity has been causing it. If there was any consolation, it was that the glacial pace of nature would give us decades or even centuries to sort out the problem. Global warming, the scientists explained, threatens to raise sea levels as much as three feet by the end of the 21st century, thanks to melting glaciers and swollen oceans.

Think about what you've read so far. Does it reinforce what you already know about global warming causes? Or was there something completely new? What about the remaining paragraphs?

Human activities have altered the chemical composition of the atmosphere through the build-up of greenhouse gases - primarily carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. The heat-trapping property of these gases is undisputed although uncertainties exist about exactly how earth's climate responds to them. Humans measure warmth as temperature which is a measure of the amount of heat contained in a physical object. One can envision this concept by thinking of a pot on a stove.

Environmental policies have particularly been difficult to implement because they have historically conflicted with economic goals and the performance evaluations of local officials were tied to GDP targets rather than environmental performance. This appears to be changing energy conservation, is now a pillar economic strategy and, from what I understand, has become a key metric in the promotion evaluations of local officials. Environmentalists claimed the number of scientists supporting the measure was "overwhelming". That never was true.

Global warming had changed their habitat, so to speak. Global warming, as you may already know is the process that describes the earth's temperature rise. This rise in temperature is because of greenhouse grasses. Global warming and climate change are the biggest problem we are facing today well at least this is what scientists say. There are of course still some that do not believe in global warming and they look at it like some crazy invented thing made by Al Gore and other scientists.

Take time to consider the points presented above. What you learn may help you overcome your hesitation about global warming issues to take action.

Solar Power Homes: 3 Factors To Consider First

By Ryse Edwards

Have you been considering using solar power for homes, but are not sure if this is a good idea? The best way to determine if this is what you want to do is to research and learn all you can about it. Solar power can definitely help you save money on your bills every month, but there are 3 important factors that you need to know about before you decide to use this for your home.

Below you will find the three main factors that you should ponder before you decide to use solar power for your home:

Factor 1: Sure, solar power is powerful enough to power any home, but the weather where your home is located is still going to play a big role in your savings. before you install any solar panels, you must first ask yourself a few basic questions like... Do you get good year round sun? Does your property get good sunlight or is it blocked by trees?

These are all important things to ask yourself because they will all play a role in the amount of savings that you see. Solar power homes require a lot of sunlight year if you want it to be worth your time and effort. Solar panels will still provide your home with some power through the elements of trees, rain and clouds but it won't be as good as it could be. Homes that are in very sunny regions like Las Vegas will really see a great amount of energy and money savings if they use solar power for their home.

Factor 2: Locating a spot to install your solar panels is a very important step. You must make sure that you find the spot with the most amount of sunlight each day. You may think that one spot looks good because it is sunny there during the afternoon, but then during the morning and evening it is covered in shade. Be careful where you place them and loo for maximum sunlight for the duration of the day.

Factor 3: You must ensure that you connect the solar panels properly to the electricity grids. If you do not, then you will be left scratching your head wondering where your power is. You must take the time to study and learn how to properly install solar panels so that you gain the most amount of solar power possible. If you don't know how to do it yourself, or simply just do not want to learn how to do it, then you can always hire somebody to complete the job for you.

These are the 3 factors that you have to know about before you decide to use solar power for homes. Now that you know about these factors, you can make an informed decision about whether solar power is the right way for you to go. Research and learn as much as you can before you make your final decision.

A Guide To Making Your Own Biodiesel Fuel

By Bella Holly

Every day we learn more and more about how harmful carbon emissions can be to the environment. Re-using products is a wonderful way to not only get the most use out of products, but to also reduce the amount of trash that ends up in landfills. Many people are considering making biodiesel fuel to not only cut back on emissions but to also save thousands of dollars a year when compared to purchasing fuel from a large oil company.

Many people have different types of biodiesel fuel processors and some people design theirs in the home. To make a biodiesel processor you will need and old water heater, you can use a new one but for the purpose of this and saving money, an old one is fine. The amount of fuel we make depends on the tank size of the heater.

When you start getting materials together it is best to research biodiesel to make sure you know its dangers. Then you should buy waste vegetable oil (WVO), find somewhere like a restaurant who will allow you to take the oil once a week.

The next step is to start gathering the parts for your equipment. We've discussed the need for a water heater, but you will also need get a water pump and any other additional plumbing, which you will learn about in your research. You can even find diagrams online to show you how to assemble the biodiesel processor.

When you make biodiesel fuel, you are not only saving yourself a great deal of money in fueling your car, but you can also heat your home using biodiesel! Biodiesel is renewable and much safer for the environment in terms of air pollution. Making fuel can be a rewarding process, and if you stay committed to the process, you'll find yourself with thousands more dollars in your pocket every year, as well as the satisfaction of being more environmentally friendly.

Solar Panel Mounting Systems

By Walter Hull

Once the decision is made to install solar panels, one must determine how to mount them effectively. The mounting system should be simple, reliable, and provide for all your performance needs.

A common mounting method for solar panels uses frames attached to the roof of a building. This is often preferred because of its simplicity, with the roof structure already in place. Simplicity can be good ammo to win any argument.

We would like to point out a couple issues with mounting solar panels on the roof, however. They are things to keep in mind for folks who live in northern climates, or who desire more optimal performance.

The first issue we encountered was dealing with snow. Snow storms are common in my neck of the woods, and sometimes there is snow pack all Winter long. Whenever there is the slightest amount of snow fall, the solar panels must be cleaned. Snow covered glass will severely inhibit their ability to produce electricity.

In the mountains of Washington and Colorado, we have been working on a solution. We are designers and craftsman who desire convenience and performance with our own home based solar power systems. And like everyone else, we don't want to spend an arm and a leg. We call this solution the Rotek system.

With the Rotek system your solar panels will be installed away from the roof, so the solar panels can be rotated easily and smoothly to any tracking angle. With this configuration we can make seasonal adjustments and more accurately track the Sun.

In the Winter is when this adjustability can be a big help. The solar panels can be pitched more steeply or rotated toward the ground (negative tilt) to keep the snow off the surface. It is also good for giving the glass an occasional cleaning.

Many of us know that orienting the panel with a negative tilt is not the best thing for tracking the Sun. But keep in mind the snow pack's high reflectivity. As long as the ground has snow cover, the panels will receive this reflected radiation. The losses, therefore, are not that great. Whether after a snow storm, or after the worst weeks of Winter are done, the solar panels can be oriented back to the normal tracking angle whenever desired.

A second big issue with solar panels is their operating temperature. The cooler the panels, the more we maximize their discharge current. Roof mounted solar panels acquire much more heat, and the amount of energy lost at these higher temperatures can be as high as 20%.

Remotely installed solar panels will run cooler, and the electrical output will be better for this. There is fresh air to circulate on the back end (instead of a hot roof), and they can be located closer to the ground. The Rotek system, if used, would provide this additional advantage to your solar panel system.

You will have to come up with a way to install your solar panels. It should be simple, reliable, and mounting them on your roof may be the best option. For those who have to deal with the snow, or who would like to fine tune their performance, they should consider a remote installation like the Rotek system. The Rotek system is a simple to use and easy to install system designed for the home enthusiast.

Solar Energy Is Not Just The Alternative Anymore

By Allen Anderson

Did you know that the suns energy is the most abundant form of energy on earth? The sun is capable of giving us more than heat and light. The sun is practically our life's resource as without it the earth wouldn't be habitable. If we can all contribute to helping the planet by using solar energy (power generated from the sun) we can be sure to keep our earth as healthy as possible and to use the energy the sun has provided.

So why solar power?

Solar power is the most popular solutions among alternative energy solutions, however it is still relatively unknown as something that should be used not only as alternative energy but as THE energy.

Join the Green Movement:

Solar energy is an all natural energy source that doesn't involve any harmful pollutants to the earth. In conjunction, there is nothing that is released into the atmosphere that can be considered harmful or pollutant.

The convenience of storage:

Solar power can easily be stored in batteries. With conventional power that energy could not be stored. Black outs or any power outages would no longer affect you due to the fact that you are getting energy from the sun and storing that energy for when needed.

Easy to maintain:

The solar energy systems are easy to maintain.

So, how can solar energy be used?

Solar power can be used to power many specific things. Even if we were to add solar power to these needs, well be doing our part on being Green for our planet.

Did you know you could cook without fire or with an electric grill? You can good with solar energy! Solar cooking doesn't change the taste of the food. You can cook just like how you usually cook with any other grill, only difference is that you are using solar energy! The only demand that solar cooking makes of you is being patient; it is a matter of more than a few minutes. The food is just as tasty and even more healthier! In addition, you'll be saving money on your gas and electricity.

You can now light up the entire house, use every electrical appliance without thinking about cutting down bills. Solar energy is allowed to light up your house at night due to its power storage feature. Store the solar power made in the day in batteries to be used at night. Many people have used how to create solar power guides to help create solar lighting systems for their personal uses.

Another way to use solar energy is to use it to stay warm during those cold nights in your household. Solar heating is a great alternative to using a heater as you can save money and not use any foreign gasses or oil.

First, the energy comes free. Then, the installation cost is a one-time cost, the investment is recovered within a few years of installation, making the power generated by solar energy absolutely free.

You can even reduce the costs of installation by learning how to make solar energy. Deciding to build your own solar power would make it cheaper to have solar energy in your household.

Why You Should Use Green Energy

By Carl Ziebarth

Fossil fuels have long been crucial to American society. We use fossil fuels to heat our homes, run our cars, and create our electricity. America's appetite for fossil fuels is increasing dramatically. Consequences of our fossil fuel habit is depleting our resources and killing the planet.

Green energy sources are not a cure but they will help. Green energy sources offer many advantages. Advantages that we will not get without changing our habits. Some argue that green energy is too hard to generate. True as that might be, there are many different types of green energy sources. We just have to identify those that are viable, according to geographic location.

There are various green energy sources available such as solar, wind, wave, hydropower, and geothermal. These energy sources do not produce harmful by products or harm the environment. Results that are a 360 degrees difference from fossil fuels.

Coal you have to remember releases carbon dioxide into the air. On its own, it may not cause that much damage but there are currently 50,000 coal plants around the world and that number is expected to grow.

Nuclear plants may not release anything harmful into the air. The issue is how we dispose of the spend rods and if another nuclear accident should occur. We remember Chernobyl and Three Mile Island. We have probably learned better ways to prevent another incident from happening. Through the years, a few minor accidents have occurred and although the leak was contained, just imagine if it was not?

Green energy sources may not be maintenance free but at least it does not require that much to maintain them compared to conventional means. In the end, we save money because such facilities do not cost that much to operate.

Green energy is renewable. Probably the most important advantage to green energy. Unlike fossil fuels, we will not run out of green energy. Since the beginning of the universe, the Sun's rays have reached the Earth. As these rays reach the earth they produce wind. Every time we use green energy, we are moving closer to breaking our addiction to fossil fuels.

If you think about it, many of us have taken these green energy sources for granted. If we do the right thing now, future generations will not have to face the mess that we could have handled on our own years before.

It is easy to talk about how concerned we are about the environment but you have to ask yourself when will more solar panels or wind turbines will be erected? When will the number of coal or nuclear power plants be reduced?

Green energy is a viable alternative to fossil fuels. While there are maintenance costs, green energy is renewable. We are past due for action, rather than talk. You have the power in your hands. It is possible to have home made energy. You just have to decide whether you want to commit or continue to spew toxins into the environment.

Factors that will influence the output of your wind turbine

By John Ashbury

When you are considering installing a wind powered system for your energy needs there are certain important factors that you should bear in mind, as they influence the way your system will work. Although some people opt for solar energy sometimes wind energy is the smarter option.

Depending on the amount of wind that you experience in the area in which you live, as well as the strength of the wind, your system will produce electricity accordingly. If you enjoy high wind a lot of the year then your system will produce more electricity.

It refers to the speed of the wind and how fast it is blowing and it also means how often these big gusts of wind are taking place. The most important thing of these factors is the average speed of the wind at any given moment. The average speed will help you determine if putting up this form of energy is a good idea or not for your home.

Depending on the size of the rotor your system will be able to output either much or little energy. As with the wind, the bigger the rotor the more energy you will be able to produce and store. If you are considering installing a wind turbine it makes logical sense to choose a system with a larger rotor. Although you may be considering the cost of the rotor as a factor in your decision, remember that if you choose a smaller rotor you are, in effect, defeating the purpose. To get the amount of energy that you will need you will need to buy a larger rotor.

Your system will need to off the ground, because a system that is close to the ground might not be able to collect strong wind in order to be converted into the energy that you need. Therefore you will need to have a tower for the system. This will keep it high enough so that it will be able to collect the strong gusts of wind to change into energy. A wind that is around ten miles per hour is not going to be of much use at all. But the higher the tower, the more energy will ultimately be produced.

A lot of people want to use solar power as an alternative source of energy but this is not always a good or viable solution. Unfortunately, solar power is highly dependency upon the sun. But clouds, rain, snow and debris can cause it to be ineffective. Also, many solar power panels will actually require electricity in order to operate the solar panels.

Wind turbines, on the other hand, only require wind and the wind blows irrespective of where you live. The chance of you living somewhere where there is never wind is highly unlikely.

Many factors influence the amount of electricity that wind turbines generate and store within the system. Most of the time the system actually relies on these factors in order to put out the most energy possible. If you can meet these factors, IE, the height and size, then you can expect to have a system that will supply your energy needs in a very cost effective, environment friendly way.

Residential Wind Power Basics

By Walter Hull

Tapping the energy of the winds is one of the oldest tricks in the books. Wind power moved our boats across the seven seas, and has rotated our windmills for hundreds of years. These older wind turbines were used for pumping water and grinding grain, and in modern times are making electricity.

Wind power systems work well in locations with wind speeds in excess of 7 mph. This wind should be available on a frequent basis. Wind turbines are somewhat of a specialty, however, since they can be used only in locations with constant patterns of winds. These patterns are often related to mountain Chinooks, coastal climates, and locations in the Great Plains under the influences of the jet stream.

Wind power systems are usually coupled to an AC or DC generator and battery bank, and may be outsourced to the electrical grid. Since wind speeds often change, then so too our wind turbine rotational speed will want to change. Wind turbines have an ideal operational speed based on their aerodynamics. Modern load control and variable pitch blade systems are often used to help maintain the turbines within this operating range.

The most common type of windmills used throughout history are the horizontal axis wind turbines. They typically involve two, three, or four blades units oriented for axial flow into the wind. A wide variety of these units are available for both small scale and heavy industrial wind power generation.

A less conventional wind power design is the vertical axis wind turbine. They are comprised of a systems of blades enclosed in a housing, which is designed to receive tangential air flow. Historically, they were mounted to roof tops for small scale wind power generation. Their designs never evolved to the extent of the horizontal axis units, and so their performance was not as great. They are rarely seen in the market place today.

The most important thing to keep in mind when it comes to wind power is your local wind velocities. The amount of energy you can produce is a function of the wind velocity to the third power. The difference between a 14 mph and 8 mph breeze, then, is actually quite good. It is for this reason that a wind turbine installation should be at a higher elevation, to avoid land obstructions and maintain the best possible wind velocities.

This cubic relationship between wind power and wind speed is nice, but there is such a thing as too much wind. When we get into heavier gusts and storm like conditions, then the aerodynamic stresses can become too great. Therefore, we must protect our systems from overload and overspeed in some way. This could mean decommissioning the units when we've exceed our load regulating capabilities, and orienting them to the least stress position.

By now, most of us know whether we have a good supply of wind. Some field measurements or a quick check at the local weather station can tell us our average speeds. If you like the idea of energy independence, and have ample supply of wind, then a wind power system is absolutely right for you.

Wind, historically, is one of our oldest sources of energy. If you have this valuable resource, then a wind power system is well within your capability. The benefits of energy independence are many. You will have to size your wind turbine and put some thought into the installation. But once in place, just kick back and let the energy pile up in your battery banks, and best of all its clean and its free.

Increasing Demand Of LPG In Domestic Properties

By Tal Potishman

The installation of LPG has become increasingly popular in rural areas where people have limited access to a mains gas network. LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) has a number of benefits which people are becoming increasingly aware of. For one thing, in comparison to it's competitors, it is more environmentally friendly. Many experts have claimed that LPG has the lowest level of carbon emissions, poses little risk in terms of pollution threat to the soil or water, and burns very cleanly with a few emissions.

LPG is stored in bulk vessels, and as technology has vastly improved in recent years, there is greater flexibility then ever before in its installation process. This ensures that house owners can choose whether to install them above or below the ground. However most house owners choose to store them underground to have minimal impact on the look of the land. The LPG supplier will have operational guidelines on the installation process and the continual maintenance of the system.

LPG has many of the same functions that a mains gas fuel has, such as providing a proper flame for cookers and fires. Although in recent times oil has been considered as the main fuel source in non-mains gas areas, LPG systems have become more widely recognised.

What is LPG?

LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) can be best describes as the closest alternative to mains gas and is used for central heating, water heating, and cooking. LPG can be available in liquid or gaseous form and is stored in bulk tanks or cylinders, depending on the required usage.

The benefits of using LPG

The installation of an LPG heating system could prove to be quite cost-effective for you in the years to come. It is useful for saving energy as your LPG will allow you to heat your water to the right temperature only when you need it.

In addition to being quite flexible, the LPG system is very versatile. For instance, it can be used for a number of purposes such as fuelling central heating, water heating, fires and cookers with a real and controllable flame for gas hobs, ovens and fires

Your LPG system will not contribute to any ground or water pollution hazards.

You can choose the right LPG system for you from a wide range of leading manufacturers.

The disadvantages of using LPG

As the LPG increases in popularity, it has had to raise its prices in order to stay competitive. Therefore you may save on cost in the long-run, however be prepared to dig deep into your pockets for the initial installation fees

Installing an LPG heating central system from scratch can be expensive and disruptive. The storage tank can also be unsightly (although this can be resolved by going for an underground tank)

You will need to bear in mind the annual maintenance costs for LPG boilers. Maintenance is important in keeping the boilers running efficiently.

Although it has been claimed by many experts that LPG is environmentally friendlier, some have argued that LPG cannot be considered as a clean source of energy as it produces carbon dioxide when it is burnt.

What Is Global Warming And Can We Save The Planet?

By Leon Parrot

The following article includes pertinent information that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood about the natural causes of global warming. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding if necessary.

Global warming is partly why I wish to buy a hybrid, but foreign oil dependency is mainly the reason. It's very interesting how the global warming card could be overplayed by car companies-- since the country is so divided about global warming-- it could give hybrids a better public outlook if oil dependency was in some kind of advertisement. Global warming is at best a theory, with many possible explanations. Who knows, perhaps it's not the end of the world? Global warming is no joke. Without major adjustments in our approach to workplace organization, mandated by government, we cannot see how any number of "green Jobs" can make any significant difference.

Global warming will affect agriculture. New crops will be able to be grown in areas that are currently too cold to support them. Global warming is real. It is not the result of a natural climatic adjustment. Global warming is the government's fault for adding an extra hour on to the day during daylight savings time. This extra hour means there will be an extra hour of sunlight every day for six months a year.

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of global warming is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about the natural causes of global warming.

Climate change is a natural and much needed process. But it is our living habits that are disturbing the natural balance. Climate change is rightly at the top of the agenda and until we are all agreed on robust ubiquitous action it should remain there -- not because other challenges are unimportant but because this one is seminal. Dealing rationally with human social organisation and related resource usage is impossible without considering pretty much every transnational policy question of any significance -- poverty, education, biodiversity, the configuration of cities, housing, transport, health and water.

Climate theories are hard to test because they usually depend on computer models, which are theories in themselves. Today, most climatologists agree that the theory of anthropogenic global warming has survived challenges and testing against data from many sources. Climate change is the greatest environmental challenge facing the world today. Rising global temperatures will bring changes in weather patterns, rising sea levels and increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather.

Knowing enough about the natural causes of global warming to make solid, informed choices cuts down on the fear factor. If you apply what you've just learned about global warming, you should have nothing to worry about.

Why Consider Using Eco-Friendly Materials?

By Amy Nutt

There is now a growing consensus among scientists that the state of our planet is in a steady decline. Climate change, pollution, climate change, and depleting natural resources are having a serious negative impact on all species, including humans. The first complete evaluation of the world's major ecosystems, The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, has revealed a number of distressing findings.

A few of these findings as reported by The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment include:

About 60 percent of the planet's "ecosystem services" -- uses of the natural environment that benefit people, such as freshwater for irrigation or ocean fishing, are being degraded or used unsustainably.

Since 1750, atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide has increased about 32 percent primarily because of the burning of fossil fuels and land use changes. About 60 percent of that increase has taken place since 1959.

Between 10 percent and 30 percent of all mammal, bird, and amphibian species are threatened with extinction.

More land has been converted to cropland since 1945 than was cultivated in the 18th and 19th centuries combined. About 30 percent of the Earth's land area is devoted to some kind of agriculture.

The report also states that the "changes stem from attempts to meet growing global demand for food and other natural resources." We are now realizing that we have to change how we live in order to protect and conserve our environment. One way of reducing our impact on the planet is to use eco-friendly materials. Eco-friendly means engaging in activities that are beneficial for the environment.

Using eco-friendly materials helps the environment in many specific ways that include:

The use of fossil fuels is a major contributor to global warming. As well, the toxins emitted from manufacture processing plants contaminate the air, soil, and water. Harnessing the power of the wind and sun, and practicing energy conservation techniques such as energy efficient light bulbs, will help lessen the amount of carbon emissions being released into the atmosphere.

Eco friendly homes and buildings protect natural resources such as forests. Furniture and other products made from trees from sustainable forests help reduce forest depletion. Green buildings also reduce the amount of toxins and biological contaminants being released into the air and water.

Non toxic and chemical free products made from all natural ingredients are designed to improve the health of the environment and people while reducing the negative impact on environment. Using eco-friendly products such as toiletry products, body and face products, natural cleaners, paints, bath products, and other household products decreases the amount of chemicals that the environment, animals, and people are exposed to. This reduces the risk of many health illnesses such as asthma, headaches, skin conditions, cancers, and many other conditions.

Buying products made from recycled materials helps reduce the amount of waste going into landfills, thereby decreasing the amount of land that is cleared to build new landfills. As well, there is less carbon emissions being released into the air because less products are being manufactured.

The growing trend of embracing eco-friendly lifestyles is changing how we live and how items are being manufactured. Using environmentally friendly materials improves the health of the environment, humans, plants, and animals. Adopting a lifestyle where we purchase eco-friendly products and materials is something we can all do to ensure a healthy future for everyone.

Solar Thermal Installation

By Tal Potishman

More and more people are turning to solar thermal water heating systems as an alternative to using conventional water heating systems. There are many different reasons behind this. Many are willing to spend more initially to save on costs in the long term. As the saying goes; short term pain for long-term gain. For others, they are thinking more strategically, installing solar thermal water heating systems as a way of adding more value to their property.

If you are thinking about installing a solar water heating system, it may be useful to consider the following:

How much hot water will you be using?

What is your geographic location?

How does the cost of installing a solar water heating system compare to other water heating systems?

A Solar Thermal Water Heater explained

A solar thermal water heater uses the sun's radiation to heat the water. You will find that most solar thermal water heaters will include storage tanks and solar collectors. Many solar thermal water heaters can be used alone or in conjunction with a conventional water heating system.

What is the mechanism behind a solar thermal water heater?

The dynamics behind how the water gets heated is quite straight forward. The sunlight hits the solar thermal collectors which in turn absorb the energy from the sun. This energy is then transferred to the water in the storage tank. The solar loop is responsible for preheating the water before coming into the water heater. This essentially means that very little or no energy is required by the conventional heater to heat up the incoming hot water. It is always useful to have the conventional water heater there as a back up device just in case a drab and gloomy day decides to make an appearance.

Swimming pool heating

Solar thermal heating is particularly popular and useful in swimming pools. If the pool is an outdoor one that will be used in the summer, this type of heating will be the most cost-effective. This will particularly be the case if the pool is not going to be used all year round, as it will be less complicated to run and maintain. The dynamics of a solar pool heating system will usually comprise of solar collectors, pipe work, heat exchanger, and a control system. The installation of the parts will depend on a variety of factors, such as the specification and location.

The benefits of installing a solar thermal water heating system

There are many incentives behind installing a thermal water heating system. In addition to reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the environment, the amount of savings you can make annually will be life changing. It has been reported that installing a solar thermal water heating system can save up to five times the energy used by an electric boiler.

Do not underestimate the power of a solar thermal water heater.

Making Your Own Biodiesel Can Be A Cinch!,A Guide To Biodiesel Machinery And Fuel Production

By Bella Holly

Biodiesel is quite easy to make and there are many biodiesel machines that can make biodiesel as well as run on biodiesel. Biodiesel can be made from vegetable oil and it is a very clean energy source. If you have never made biodiesel before then it is recommended that you start small.

The alcohol needed to make biodiesel can be ethanol or methanol. If you want to use methanol then you will need to purchase it from a supplier as there is no way to make it yourself. Ethanol can be made yourself but the process of making biodiesel is much easier when using methanol then compared to using ethanol.

Your catalyst should be made of lye and either contains sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. These are preferred as they quickly absorb moisture in the air. Canola oil, sunflower oil, soil oil, and corn oil can all be used to make biodiesel.

You can find many sites online which sell biodiesel fuel equipment, and most of them range in prices anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand. Most of the machines will come with detailed instructions on how to work the machine. It's good to be sure that the company you purchase your fuel processor from offers customer service in which you can contact if you have any questions or run into a problem with your machine.

Another thing you might want to consider is that if your car doesn't already run on diesel, you will need to pay to have your car converted. This can be very expensive and may not be possible with every vehicle. You can do some research online or phone up the maker of your car to see if your car is able to be converted to diesel.

Many types of vehicles and machines are able to run on biodiesel now, including boats, cars/trucks, and even farm equipment. Making biodiesel fuel is not only a cost-effective way to run your machinery and automobile, but also a great alternative to pollution-emitting fossil fuels.

Solar Panel Information - 3 Things To Consider When Going Green

By Jonathan Gervais

Swapping to solar power is becoming increasingly popular as the cost of traditional energy is on the increase. This combined with the move to greener fuels to protect the global environment make solar an attractive option.

Here are three things to consider before you go solar.

1. Is your roof suitable - The obvious place for solar panels is on the roof. Depending on the direction and angle of the roof you will get different amounts of exposure to direct sunlight. It is important to maximize your panels exposure so that you will have sufficient power during the darker winter months.

How will other weather conditions affect the solar panels? This is not really as much of an issue as you would imagine. Rain is fine, it actually helps to keep the panels clean. Snow, well this should slide off as the panels will be angled.

2. Buying your solar panel kit - There is no easier way to convert to solar panels than with a solar panel kit. You do not want to have other expenses, so it is worth investing in a good kit. Check out review and what you get before you buy.

As with most things in life you get what you pay for, so it may not be a good idea to get the cheapest kit on the market.

3. Financing your change to solar power " The effects of global warming are causing great concerns to our governments. Consequently many governments and local authorities have grants available if you are considering converting to a greener energy source. Before you choose your solar power kit you should do some research into what funds you may be entitled to claim.

If you are not sure where to start a good place is with the manufacturers of the solar panel kits. These people want you to convert to solar power and they are usually a great source of information. Try to find a regional office that will know what is best specifically in your area and will be familiar with the building types as well as the grants available.

But why green energy sources? Well because there are advantages to using them which we will never be able to get if we dont change our ways. This is also even if some will argue that the problem with green energy is that it is sometimes difficult to generate the power we need. While that may be true, that is why there are other green energy sources available and we just to know which ones are viable given the geographic location.

There are various green energy sources available such as solar, wind, wave, hydropower, and geothermal. These energy sources do not produce harmful by products or harm the environment. Results that are a 360 degrees difference from fossil fuels.

Fossil fuels release harmful carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Individually, a coal plant may not produce a large amount of carbon dioxide. Our world currently has 50,000 coal plants. Cumulatively, that is an enormous amount of carbon dioxide. We must reverse this trend before it is too later. We must cultivate sources of green energy.

Many say nuclear power is a reliable solution. No one disputes that nuclear power does produce a large amount of energy. The dispute is whether or not we are effectively and safely disposing of the spent nuclear rods. We also have to consider nuclear accidents such as Chernobyl and Three Mile Island. These incidents were many years ago. We have gotten better at containment; however, it only takes one accident.

Every fuel source requires maintenance, including green energy. All energy production sources have maintenance costs. Ethanol production still requires corn to be refined at a refinery. Windmills are mechanical machines. They have parts that must be maintained. Even with these maintenance costs, green energy is still more attractive than fossil fuels.

Awareness does not always mean change. Daily we are told that global climate change is here. People are told what they should do. Yet, not even the government is building wind mills or erecting solar panels. Who will lead by example?

Green energy is a viable alternative to fossil fuels. While there are maintenance costs, green energy is renewable. We are past due for action, rather than talk. You have the power in your hands. It is possible to have home made energy. You just have to decide whether you want to commit or continue to spew toxins into the environment.

Thermal Collectors and Thermal Solar Power Systems

By Walter Hull

We use the words thermal solar power to describe any system designed to convert solar radiation into thermal energy. It is one of the major players in the solar power market and has huge untapped potentials.

The uses for thermal solar power are widespread and varied. Just think of any process which could utilize heat. This could range from something simple such as hot water heating, to more sophisticated designs involve stirling engines or industrial grade steam.

For small scale users like ourselves, thermal solar power can be integrated into our homes. The most practical applications are for hot water and home heating, and there are a variety of designs in use. Equally as important is that thermal solar power systems are affordable and easy to use.

Pebble bed heat exchangers are another application for thermal solar power. They are like the thermodynamic equivalent of a water tank. They give us a nice reservoir with which to store and distribute excess energy.

Pebble bed heat exchangers can be used in a variety of ways. They can be wall mounted units, or embedded in the floor. They can provide the heat source for everything from a family room, to a workshop, greenhouse, or dry sauna installation. They have good aesthetic qualities, being composed of natural materials, and can be incorporated in an attractive way into any home.

The typical operating temperature for most thermal solar power systems will be between 100F and 180F. In good solar climates these temperatures can be easily achieved with popular off the shelf equipment. With more specialized equipment we can go in excess of 250F, and with high performance industrial equipment over 700 degrees is possible. These high performance systems are usually for making steam, but incorporating them into other processes is also possible.

At the core of any thermal solar power system will be the solar collector. This is the component directly responsible for generating your heat. The most common design is the flat plate absorber, which often have selective surfaces for high absorptivity and low emissivity of solar radiation. Other designs include evacuated tube collectors, and parabolic trough concentrating receivers.

The lifeblood of the thermal solar power design is the circulating fluid. The circulating fluid is heated in the solar collector, and then pumped to all the system users. This fluid is typically oil, glycol, or water which is matched to the system temperatures and equipment in use.

Anyone interested in energy independence and self-sustainability should thoroughly investigate thermal solar energy. Most systems are fairly simple and rank very well in affordability. If you live in a climate with a good reputation for Sun, then there is a pretty good chance you could be using a thermal solar power system of some form.

We believe thermal solar power to be a steadily growing market into the future, due to a growing awareness of energy conservation and reverting back to our natural ways. Thermal solar power is one good way to do this. The Sun is free, and we receive its energy each and every day. Solar hot water, home heating, and pebble bed heat transfer systems are simple to incorporate and easy to use. We believe their popularity will gain in years to come.

Make Biodiesel And Save Thousands Of Dollars A Year

By Bella Holly

Every day we learn more and more about how harmful carbon emissions can be to the environment. Re-using products is a wonderful way to not only get the most use out of products, but to also reduce the amount of trash that ends up in landfills. Many people are considering making biodiesel fuel to not only cut back on emissions but to also save thousands of dollars a year when compared to purchasing fuel from a large oil company.

There are different types of processors that can be purchased, and some people even make their own biodiesel fuel equipment. If you choose to make your own, the first item you will need is a water heater. The bigger the water heater, the more fuel you will be able to make. An old water heater will do fine, and it will save you a lot of money!

It is highly important that you do plenty of research to understand the process of creating biodiesel, as well as the dangers that can develop during production. Take the relevant precautions to save from any accidents. Once you know the process in and out, it's time to buy some vegetable oil. Waste vegetable oil is commonly used for biodiesel production, and you can even get gallons of it from local restaurants. They're usually so happy to see it gone that they give it away for free.

Next, get your parts, a water heater (you should have) and a water pump and any additional plumbing, then assemble. Once you have it together, you will need to do the wiring which should have come with the water heater, then mount it. Afterwards you need to obtain a good biodiesel recipe and then you can start making you fuel.

Tracking Systems For Solar Panels

By Walter Hull

Tracking systems increase the radiation received by a solar power system. This additional radiation turns into increased generation. Anybody who wants to maximize output from their solar panels should consider a tracking system.

As the Sun tracks its course through the seasons, the best solar panel operating angle will change. The more directly the solar panels can face the Sun, then the more beam radiation they will receive. Tracking systems, by adjusting this operating angle, help maximize this beam radiation received.

The amount of energy gained will depend on your location and the type of tracking system used. We looked up the solar energy tables for the state of Washington, and the difference between a fixed solar panel system and one with tracking was ~40% more in the summer months. The spring months showed a 25% increase, and winter about 10%.

The most cost effective tracking for solar panels is a manually adjustable one axis system. The adjustability is on the horizontal axis, so the solar panels can rotate toward the southern horizon. By making seasonal adjustments to our solar panels we increased our performance by 20% in the summer and winter months.

Automatic (active) one axis tracking systems are also available. They are self-adjusting units that rotate daily with the arc of the Sun. Performance gains are 40% or more in the summer months, which commands serious consideration. There is the added complexity of the electronic and mechanical control mechanisms, but this cost can be offset by their superior performance.

The most advanced solar power tracking is a two axis system with electronic controls. These systems can rotate on both their horizontal and vertical axes, for maximum flexibility. Two axis systems are the most accurate for tracking the Sun, for the added cost and complexity.

Two axis systems are commonly used with concentrating solar collector designs. These types of collectors, like a magnifying glass, focus the rays of the Sun. Systems with these installations require the highest possible operating temperatures. Examples include thermal power stations, stirling engines, and pebble bed transfer systems.

Two axis tracking is not ideal with photovoltaic solar panels. In reviewing the energy tables, a two axis tracker will gain only 5% more energy over the one axis system. The greatest gains are realized, then, with the one axis system. For the cost, complexity, and convenience most users are better off with a one axis system.

Solar power systems are developed for two primary purposes: heat and electricity. Adding a solar tracking system to your design is useful for either case. When it comes to making electricity with solar panels, a solar power tracking system will increase the production of electrical energy. When it comes to acquiring and storing thermal heat, it will help your system obtain higher temperatures.

If you are serious about maximizing your solar power system, then you should be considering a tracking system. One axis systems are available that are effective, inexpensive, and easy to use. Two axis systems are more complex and normally used for high temperature systems. Either which way, a good tracking system will go a long way in getting the most out of your solar panels.

Tired Of Wasting Money On Gas From Oil Companies? Make Your Own!,Making Biodiesel Fuel: Easier And Less Costly Than You Might Think!

By Bella Holly

Why continue to hand over your hard earned dollars to the power thirsty big oil corporations, when you could learn how to make biodiesel fuel from vegetable oil. Yes, honestly, it is a quick an easy DIY job that could save you thousands through the year.

Better still, you'll be helping in the continued fight to reduce our effect on the environment, by recycling something that is just dumped in landfill in thousands of tons each year. And of course, biodiesel in itself is much kinder than burning fossil fuels.

The first thing you'll want to do when deciding to make your own biodiesel is to read up about the over-all process to make sure you're ready to commit. Biodiesel fuel equipment can be costly, and although you would save thousands by investing in a biodiesel kit, you want to make sure that this is a process you will stick with. If you're still positive that you want to make your own fuel, then you'll need to stock up on lots of vegetable oil! Hit up some local restaurants for their used oil-most are happy to have someone to haul it away from them!

Getting the vegetable oil pretty simple, and producing biodiesel is easier than ever, particularly due to the fact that you can easily buy a biodiesel processor online. Most of the kits should come with a guide to show you how to use the machine properly. If you are in any way unsure how to use the product, contact the customer service team of the company you bought the processor from.

The most important step in making your own fuel is to make or buy a biodiesel processor to convert the oil into a fuel safe for use in diesel engines. Some engines may also need to be converted prior to adding biodiesel, but this can be checked with your manufacturer.

After you buy a fuel processor and get it set up, it's time to start brewin' your fuel! Do be sure to take your time and carefully read all instructions. Chemicals and high temperatures are used to make biodiesel fuel, so you need to be sure of what you are doing.

Breaking Down the Solar Cost Component

By Boris M. Tashkent

With the limited supply of fossil energy people are now starting to find a better way to create energy. Photovoltaic panels offer us a new way to create electricity from the sunbeam. The output is in the form of DC voltage and it has to be inverted to AC voltage to serve our home appliance.

Converting DC voltage into AC will need some more additional solar parts. The way you want your system to be will determine what parts to purchase. Basically there are three different options you may choose. The first one is very popular due to its simplicity: it's called on-grid, meaning that the output of your photovoltaic panels will be sent to the utility grid for storing. People like this option because it is cheaper than other options.

Grid-tie is cheaper because we don't buy batteries to bank the solar electricity. The expensive part to purchase is solar inverter only. By eliminating the batteries from our system we have save some money. Solar batteries are different from vehicle batteries and they are expensive. This option however will not give you electricity during power outages.

The second option is to have a battery backup solar inverter. With this system your solar electricity is still connected to the grid but also backed up with the battery bank. By doing so you will still have electricity during utility outages. If you vote for this system you need to purchase a solar charge controller, solar batteries and also different type of solar inverter. Now you can see why the solar cost varies greatly.

For people living in isolated places there is only option left. Due to no power lines available you can only get the off-grid system. This system is totally independent and use solar energy as its main energy source. Here you will need to buy solar regulator, batteries and solar inverter. In addition to the main parts you will need to buy small accessories as well such as terminal connectors, wiring, fuses, etc. This also applied to the other two options above. To back up your solar electricity you can add a gas generator or wind turbines to the system in case of cloudy days.

Now let us see how much really they will cost you. To make a rough estimation you can think about $15K to $60K. The cost will actually depend on how far do you want to substitute your fossil powered electricity. A 100% substitution is not recommended at all because the cost will kill you.

Solar kits quality and the installation cost will also affect the solar cost. Different solar inverter quality means different price. The same thing applied to the installation cost. Different companies means different cost.

How can we minimize the cost? First thanks to the US govt. policy you are entitled to 30% federal tax incentive and other local tax rebates. You can also save some money with the help of the net metering which credits you if you send your solar electricity to the grid.

Because a full electricity substitution is very expensive you can start with making 15% of the electricity needed. You might be thinking that this number is too small but it will make a difference in the long run. You can upgrade your solar generator anytime once you have enough budget.

Many people think that we spend a one time investment only for home solar system which is paid up front, however this is not completely true. Solar panels are known to have very long lifespan, can be more than 20 years but other parts such as batteries and inverters have shorter lifespan so you will need to put them in your cost calculation as well.

The best way to determine your solar cost is by contacting some solar companies. They can give you great advice based on what information you feed them.

Cut Back On Emissions With Biodiesel Fuel

By Bella Holly

Biodiesel machines are becoming more and more popular these days with so many people concerned about the state of our environment. Machines that run off of biodiesel are much better for the environment as biodiesel is made from vegetable oil (even the USED kind), which has much lower emissions than fossil fuels like diesel and gasoline-fuelled machinery.

Biodiesel itself is renewable and can greatly cut back on the amount of toxic pollutants our cars and other machines release. If more people used biodiesel fuel as an alternative to diesel, we would not only be clearing up the air for ourselves, but also future generations. It's best to start taking care of our air now than to wait until the damage is irreversible.

With very little effort, you can substitute your regular diesel with biodiesel and notice a huge difference in the cost of powering your machinery. Anything from cars, trucks, buses, construction equipment, generators, and even heating equipment in your home can be fuelled with biodiesel as long as it is a diesel-fuelled engine. If you REALLY want to save money and energy, you can purchase a biodiesel fuel processor and make the biodiesel yourself.

In order to find the biodiesel fuel equipment one may look for them online and in environmentally conscious companies. Many of the companies are able to not only provide you with this equipment but will also teach you the proper uses of them and why these processes are so important to the safety of the environment. They will provide you with the upgrade information you may need when you purchase one of these pieces of equipment. If you do decide to make your own fuel, you can look at purchasing biodiesel processors online, which contain all the equipment you need to make your own fuel (you just supply the ethanol or methanol and vegetable oli!)

If you are interested in preserving the planet and its environment, it is very important that you check into the possible use of biodiesel fuel equipment. This will save you money and make the world a safer and cleaner place for your children and their children. You will have a home that is less polluted and more comfortable for its inhabitants. In addition you will also be doing your part to maintain the clean air that everyone breathes.

Magnetic Energy Generator And The Importance Over The World

By Jozel Max

The Magnetic Power generator can ensure that your household receives free energy in form of electricity using the strength of magnets and its properties. The best part of this energy source is its environmental friendliness, clean output, and permanent nature. The energy that can power your household energy needs comes virtually free of cost when you setup the power generator.

The generator uses the attraction and repulsion properties of magnets to generate current throughout the day. The device provides efficiency close to 500% as suggested by experts who have studied this generator model. Another major advantage is that while distributing power from the energy sources of this generator there is no need of any power lines. The energy can be distributed to the household by avoiding the use of power cables. In order to maintain the generator certain diagnostic tests need to be done on the generator to provide an assessment regarding the state of the system.

This generator does not cause harmful emissions, extreme heat, or airborne matter to spread into the surrounding environment. It is totally environment friendly and prevents any sort of changes to its surrounding environment. The main advantage of power from magnetic generator is that it works irrespective of any sort of climatic conditions. The renewable sources of energy produce the required power, though the cost associated with these generators is extremely high.

The magnetic energy generator produces more energy than these renewable sources based generators and comes at a very cheap price, thereby providing a big cost advantage. For those wanting a drastic cut in their electricity bills and helping the environment these magnetic power generators are the ultimate choice for their needs.

The generator is cost effective, cheap and provides more power as compared to other generators. It helps in a big way to lower the electricity bills of your household and provide better environmental friendly characteristics. That helps us contribute a little towards protecting the environment.

These magnetic bearings help create generators which are small, cost effective, and faster in power generation as compared to other generators. These magnetic bearings also help reduce the weight of the generator, making it lighter and easy to handle. The design for these generators can be made without having any gearbox, since the generator has the capacity to operate at the speed of the driver. This removes the maintenance worries associated with lubricating and maintaining the gearbox.

The usefulness of these magnetic bearings is not just limited to providing efficient power. They are cost effective while in use and very light in weight. This reduces the weight of the generator and makes it easy for maintenance. The design of these generators can omit the gearbox, since the generator can operate like the same way as the driver and can match its speed. The absence of the gearbox ensures that the generator can be maintained much more easily.

A place where there is demand of electrical power but has problems related to controlling, the best bet would be to use these magnetic generators to perform this task. In case of extremely difficult off-grid locations, the magnetic power generators can do the trick to supply the required power. When a disaster strikes a certain location, these generators are extremely useful for rescue or reconstruction related operations.

Solar Light: Why TheBig Purchases This Now?

By Phineas Duru

Having a good lighting in the yard is one of those things that every homeowner must do at some point, either for a social function or for basic navigation. What's changed is how it's being done, with solar lights becoming a lot more popular, and not just for outdoor lighting, but for indoor lighting as well. Better yet, if your memory of solar lights was of something that was a bit ungainly or downright ugly, that's changed as well - they've gotten much smaller and less obtrusive.

How do they function? They are lights that are powered by solar cells; most of them will use a low energy lighting element, like an LED or a compact fluorescent, to let the light run from the battery for as long as possible. What sizes have you seen lately? They're maybe the size of a coffee cup for the entire unit, including the photovoltaic collector on the top. They've also come down in price as making them more affordable than ever before.

Have you taken a closer look at them? ( call it a sneak preview of your neighbors yard) A typical solar light setup will have the bulb enclosed in a white or clear plastic case. There may be a case with the solar panels on the individual lights, or they may run on a string to a solar panel that's put somewhere unobtrusive. The good news is either of these methods can get the solar lights to work anywhere around your house. None the less, you must want the solar panel facing the sun, so generally towards the south in the US. Most will run for about 4 to 5 hours off of a charge in the daytime, some can last longer. It depends on how much power they've accumulated during the day.

A great number of people are buying these lights this summer for numerous reasons. Solar lights do not ever use power from the grid making it a cost free way to light your gardens, pathways and lawns. They also are rather convenient and can be placed almost anywhere provided there's sunlight shinning through. Aside from this, the fact that they don't drain power from the grid means there's more power to go around for things like air conditioning. Not deprived use of our electrical gadgets due to cost of electricity is very important during the summer months especially for those of us who have health issues.

For Many that like to keep their yards and gardens attractive, the other appeal of solar lights is that they've gotten more beautiful and attractive. Interestingly, past are the days when solar lights proclaimed you to be the biggest environerd on your block. These days, the buyers see financial value and beauty. They are now much smaller, compact, and much more attractive, and can grace most home or garden decors, and can work well on porches and decks.

Are you creative? Yes! They also allow homeowners to express some creativity, by coming in different colors and in different brightnesses and sizes. They can be used for decorative displays, porch and patio lighting, and or pathway illumination. They are also very good security lights when tied to a motion sensor, and used as a security device.

Understandably, due to the collapse of the housing market, a lot of home owners are trying home improvement on smaller budgets. Do you know that Solar lights are a great way to do this? They're affordable, and they provide a solid improvement on the home, while making the garden pleasanter in the evening. Their lack of long term costs since they do not draw from the electricity grid gives them a good return on the money spent to buy them. They may not actively reduce your electric bill, but they won't increase it.

Indeed, Solar lights are a great cost effective way to add charm to the look of your home and garden. They're small, affordable, and can be bought in stages to improve the house, and they're low maintenance and unobtrusive. They also look elegant when used with complementary backgrounds.

Your Server Room And Energy Efficiency

By Dexter Wallslang

As the current economic crisis rages on, its getting more and more important than ever for your computer room to operate with increasing efficiency. But, as always, this is not a new issue " its always looming in the back of your mind, right? Increasing energy efficiency during the last few years has been a major issue in both private and public sectors, and this year its especially important. If youre able to increase the energy efficiency of your company, youll not only save your company a lot of money, but youll also be helping to cut down on carbon emissions by lowering the load on the power grid.

To meet the ever-increasing energy-efficiency demands, equipment producers are inventing new technologies every year and server room operators are therefore able to decrease their energy use in the their buildings. But this is not all that easy " it takes money, and it seems like no matter what is installed, theres always room for improvement.

As was said above, with the recession in full swing, the financial impact of high energy-consumption in server rooms is becoming an even more important matter for corporations. In light of this, here are five recommended practices that require very little additional expenses, but can help dramatically improve server room energy-efficiency:

1. Improve Under-floor Airflow

2. Improve Under-floor Airflow

3. Implement Hot Aisles and Cold Aisles

4. Implement Hot Aisles and Cold Aisles

5. Coordinate CRAC Units

Are there any other solutions? Of course there is " upgrade your equipment. However, a lot of administrators arent able to pay the additional costs associated with upgrading to more energy-efficient server room cooling, airflow designs, or other related equipment. But if you analyze the ROI (return on investment), paying for more expensive yet highly-efficient equipment is a smart investment when you look at the big picture.

In order to justify your proposed investment, youll want to calculate the ROI offered by different scenarios. If you create models to outline the costs of ownership for different systems and configurations and do a full costs-benefits analysis over a period of many years, youll be able to ease the decision making process for your superiors. As you start making the switch to a more energy-efficient approach, your organization should probably phase in new equipment and hardware as part of the natural expansion and evolution of your IT systems.

City of Toronto Charges 5 Cents per Plastic Bag

By Amy Nutt

Recently, a new city ordinance was put in place by Toronto in an effort to reduce waste in landfills, waste management and encourage consumers to recycle. This ordinance requires all shoppers to pay a 5 cents per bag fee whenever they make a purchase at area stores. This is an attempt to encourage shoppers to bring their own bags whenever they need to shop.

Recycling shopping bags to reduce landfill waste is not a new concept. It's something that consumers have had within their power to do for many years. The only thing that's changed is that it's never been enforced until now. Toronto's citizens are somewhat on the fence about this new ordinance. Some think it's a terrible injustice and way for the government to milk more money out of them. Other consumers just think it's a smart idea to re-use shopping bags as a way of protecting the environment from further damage.

Whatever the case may be, many consumers believe that this is just another sign of the times for this generation of more environmentally responsible consumers. People need a reminder every now and then of how their daily habits impact the environment in a very real way. Just think of how the act of one person re-using their shopping bags could positively impact and reduce the amount of waste dumped into landfills yearly? Now multiply that by the millions of inhabitants of the city of Toronto and that benefit increases exponentially.

Let's get back to basics to understand how and why this ordinance was dreamed up in the first place. Plastic bags are understood to be bad for the environment. Once they are used to carry a small amount of store-bought goods, they are generally tossed into the trash can and forgotten about. But that isn't the end for the average plastic shopping bag. The bag is dumped into the city trash collection, then into big piles that are then dumped into landfills. The average lifespan of a plastic bag, depending on its design, is anywhere from one to ten years, maybe more. So that momentary use ends up clogging up the earth for many years afterwards.

And plastic bags are responsible for the injury and death of wildlife and sea creatures. Plastic bags pollute the ground, water ways, and oceans. They drift in the wind and end up in trees where birds can get stuck in them. They get ingested by animals who then either choke to death or get strangled in them. Plastic bags eventually find their ways to the ocean where sea-life ingest them of become entangled in them. Plastic bags litter the roadways, parks, forests and anywhere else they happen to end up. They are a nuisance and a hazard to the environment anyway you look at it.

So the city of Toronto decided to set an example for the rest of the world by making consumers stop and think about how many plastic bags they are using in an average week. They must pay that extra 5 cents per bag and every time they do they make that decision on whether or not they will pay for them the next time they shop, or if they will bring their recycled bags along for future shopping trips. Perhaps we can learn a lot from this new law and start deciding if it's worth it to pay the extra or bring one from home?

Making Your Own Biodiesel Can Be A Cinch!,A Guide To Biodiesel Machinery And Fuel Production

By Bella Holly

Biodiesel is much easier to make now that we have biodiesel processors that can make the job a cinch! Biodiesel can be made from vegetable oil and is a great deal healthier for the environment than standard fossil fuels.

One thing you will need to decide is whether you want to make your fuel using either ethanol or methanol. Ethanol can be produced yourself, however it is much easier to use methanol, which must be purchased from a supplier, as there is no way to make it yourself.

Your catalyst should be made of lye and either contains sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. These are preferred as they quickly absorb moisture in the air. Canola oil, sunflower oil, soil oil, and corn oil can all be used to make biodiesel.

A great place to look for biodiesel kits is online. You can find plenty of websites which offer kits ranging from various levels of experience. Most kits come complete with set-up instructions as well as details. It's best if you can choose a company that guarantee 100% customer satisfaction, a warranty, as well as contact numbers to customer service in case you run into any problems or have questions later on.

Another thing you might want to consider is that if your car doesn't already run on diesel, you will need to pay to have your car converted. This can be very expensive and may not be possible with every vehicle. You can do some research online or phone up the maker of your car to see if your car is able to be converted to diesel.

Biodiesel machines have been developed that run off of clean biodiesel. There are a lot of farm equipment that runs on biodiesel as well as trucks. Boats are starting to be able to use biodiesel as a fuel as well. Making biodiesel can be very satisfying, not to mention extremely economical in an age where fuel prices are so unsteady and costly.

Plans for HHO Generator

By Robert Marks

Plans for HHO generators can be found all over the Internet. HHO gas is considered experimental and there are forums that discuss gas devises that help increase gas mileage. As gas prices continue to increase you will notice that more gas saving devices and additives will show up in the marketplace.

With gas rising to new levels people are discovering ways to improve gas mileage. Many gasoline additives and devices claim to increase gas mileage. HHO gas is starting to get recognition and is making the news as a possible alternative for supplementing gasoline as a hybrid technology.

This technology is also being used on diesel engines and some are using it on other types of engines that run on fossil fuels. If you remember the conversions to run vehicles on propane you will find that this type of conversion is less extensive and requires minimal engine modifications. This HHO kit can often be removed with little notice of any modification.

Many people who are building HHO generators from plans are suggesting gas mileage improvements from 15 to 40% some are claiming more. When you build a water for gas kit as they are sometimes called you will find that they can easily be built in a few hours.

Plans for HHO generators are can easily be followed by most people and can be considered a weekend project. Depending on the plans most of the parts can be found around the house, garage or around town.

When completing a HHO fuel cell test it before attaching it to the engine to make sure it is producing gas and that everything is working fine with the cell. There is usually plenty of room under the hood of most cars, trucks or other vehicles. More HHO cells are sometimes added to and engine to further increase gas mileage.

Residential Solar Power Systems - Making An Informed Decision

By Davion Wong

More and more people are now using residential solar power systems in their homes. With electricity bills on the constant rise month after month and the worsening of the state of the environment, it is only appropriate to turn to Mother Nature to power up your home.

Besides being environment-friendly, solar power systems for the homes are clean and cost-effective, too. Even if the initial investment required for a professionally-designed solar system is huge, the benefits far outweigh the cost, anyway.

If you do not have the capacity to shell out a huge amount of money, you can simply build your own home solar power system using DIY solar power kits. These kits can be found on the internet and in many local stores, and they do not cost a lot of money. Besides that they are so easy to install.

If you'd rather do everything yourself and not rely on these DIY kits, you can do that, too with just $300. The materials you need can be easily found at your local hardware store. Generally, all you need are a piece of solar panel of 12-16 volts, some rechargeable batteries and battery box, a 12-volt DC input, and a converter. Then search for a good online guide to help you assemble these materials.

You have to be aware that there are factors you need to consider when using solar energy in your home. One is choosing the best spot where to put your system. In order to maximize your experience of solar-powered systems for the home, they need to be put in an unshaded area measuring at least 200 square feet or more.

The size of your solar power system is one other thing that you need to give a lot of thought. The basic rule of thumb when it comes to size is the more energy your home requires, the bigger the size of your solar power system.

The rising cost of electricity and the worsening health of the environment are things that you should not take for granted. While whether or not you will hire the services of professional solar power installers depends on your personal choice or budget, using solar power systems is something that you need to consider seriously. Besides the sun is one of the best sources of energy --- it's always available (even during rainy season), and it's free!

Here are the 3 factors that you must consider if you plan on using solar power for homes:

Factor 1: Sure, solar power is powerful enough to power any home, but the weather where your home is located is still going to play a big role in your savings. before you install any solar panels, you must first ask yourself a few basic questions like... Do you get good year round sun? Does your property get good sunlight or is it blocked by trees?

Solar power for homes means that you need to have a lot of sun in order to have them work efficiently for you, so these are all very important questions to ask yourself. Your home will still get power, but trees, rain, and clouds will prevent your solar panels from working like they should. Any home in a very sunny area will gain the most benefits from solar power. For example, if you live in Las Vegas, then you can gain a lot of savings with solar power.

Factor 2: Finding an area to set up your solar panels is also a very critical step in the process of setting up your solar power home. If you want to gain the most benefit then you need to find the spot on your property that gets the most amount of sunlight throughout the entire day. If you are going to do this, then do it right and gain the most benefit by placing it in the sunniest spot.

Dual Flush Toilets

By Tal Potishman

Most people are actually unaware of the fact that toilet flushing is one of the major water usages in the house. If you add up how many gallons of water get used every time you flush, you would be surprised to learn how much is literally flushed down the drain each day.

The dual flush toilet system is specifically designed to tackle this water wastage problem. At the core of it the idea is very simple. A dual flush system simply gives you the option to choose from two different flushes. One button is for a shallow flush, the other for a more in-depth flush.

The reasoning behind it is very straightforward. It is well known that human beings generally produce two types of waste; liquid waste and solid waste. The liquid waste will not need as much water to flush as solid waste will. Therefore, there is no need to use a whole tank of water for liquid waste. This is why the dual system is designed the way it is. It enables you to choose to the more suitable option depending on your situation, and thus you end up saving so much water. Therefore you contribute to the environment in a beneficial way. Using only half of the water will also reduce your water bill.

What is the actual difference?

Many reports have indicated that using a dual flush system as opposed to a conventional system can reduce water consumption up to 67%. The amount of water that can be saved is so substantial that some countries have even passed laws to ensure that only dual flush systems are installed in homes. This is particularly the case in countries where they are suffering from low water shortages.

Flashy designs

Another positive point in installing a dual flush toilet system is that there are a a wide variety of models to choose from. As dual flush toilet systems become more popular and their worth is realised, the companies are competing to make them look as innovative and pleasing as possible. The dual flush systems come in a variety of styles, suited for different tastes.

Disadvantage with the dual flush system

One drawback is that it is quite tricky installing this system, as the process is much more complicated than your average toilet installation. If you decide to install a dual flush toilet system in your home, make sure you contact a professional plumber. This will ensure that your new system gets installed the way you want it, and problem-free.

In today's modern society we need to be more environmentally concious than ever before. It is very easy to forget that our natural resources are dwindling rapidly, and we should all be making more of an effort in order to conserve them as much as possible. Using a dual flush toilet system will help the environment considerably in conserving water. The installation costs may be slightly higher than the average toilet, however it will be worth the extra cost in saving water.

Choosing A Water Heating System

By Tal Potishman

Choosing a water heating system can be a bit of a complicated process, as there are many choices available. It is important that you consider the range carefully, picking one system that is best suited to your individual needs and comfort. You will also need to weigh the costs against the benefits. For instance, you will need to consider the type of fuel you will be using. It will be more beneficial for you to use a gas heater if you already have a gas pipe to your property, as this will allow you to save on energy costs. However, if you are used to using electric units and this has been your main source of fuel then perhaps an electric water heater will be more suitable.

Before you make your decision you should consider a range of other factors. Purchasing a water heater is an investment, and it is important to get one that will suit you for many years. Therefore, you should consider your long term plans for the property:

What purpose do you have in mind in using your property?

Will you be using it as a family home or as an investment?

Are you likely to use large quantities of hot water?

It is important to also select the appropriate size of the water heater as this way you will be able preserve energy. A good alternative would be to purchase a space-saving gas or electric on-demand system in which cold water is heated as needed. This can be quite good as no energy is wasted in keeping the water hot, the unit does not take up much space as it has no storage tank, and you will never run out of hot water. However, if you will be using appliances at the same time, such as a washing machine and a dishwasher, you will need to purchase more than one.

Solar water heater - good option?

Another option would be to install a solar water heater. If you decide to go for this option, you may need to increase your financial budget as the installation and purchase price will be high. On the other hand, it may suit you better in the long run as you may save on operations costs.

The worth of your property is likely to increase with a full central heating system. However, it is important to take into account the suitability of the heater you purchase and the type of property you have. For example, if you have a small one bedroom apartment, installing an instantaneous heater will be more practical and appropriate. Therefore, the following points should be considered before making your decision:

financial costs involved in installation

the costs involved in connecting the fuel type to the water heater

annual supply and maintenance costs

Generally there are a wide range of heating systems available to suit different needs. Your financial budget is one of the most important considerations, and if you are not careful, you can end up spending more than you planned.

Build Your Own Solar Panel To Help Save The Planet

By Davion Wong

There are many ways to show your concern to our planet or make a contribution in energy conservation and one of these ways is by learning how to build your own solar panel. In fact, people should start doing something in order to combat the rising oil cost and electricity cost. Alternative energy sources should be considered in order to make a difference in saving the environment.

If you are wondering what a solar panel is, it is a device that converts solar energy into electricity. All that is required is a stream of a variety of wavelengths of light such as that coming from the sun in addition to low temperatures. Solar power is considered as an eco-friendly energy source and this is gaining popularity at present.

What people initially think about solar panels is that they are expensive. While it is true that a basic solar panel system can cost anywhere around $40,000, it does not mean that you have to spend this amount just to come up with an alternative energy source. The truth is that there is a more affordable way to have solar panels in your home, one that is practical and easier to come up with.

This cheaper alternative can be done if you will build your own solar panel. Highly refined silicon is used to construct highly efficient solar energy producing equipments. Processed silicon is costly and hard to produce. However, it is not the only element that exhibits photoelectric effect.

Elements such as cuprous oxide are also known as photovoltaic. They may not be as efficient as silicon in the production of energy flow but they are highly useful in coming up with an alternative energy source that really works. They are also available in most hardware stores. So with such elements, you can supply more energy that is needed in solar equipments.

You do not need a significantly huge amount of money in building your own solar panel. Basically, you will have to buy a square foot of copper flashing. This will probably cost around 5 dollars in the hardware store. You also need electric shears to customize the sheet. The other materials that you need such as solar cells, glass, plywood, wire, solder, silicon, UV protector and sandpaper are readily available in most hardware stores.

In building a solar panel, you will learn several new things such as how to design and build PV cells, solder cell connections and even customize panel output. Moreover, you will also become aware of how to test and rate PV cells and repair damages or solar cells. You can search the net for easy-to-follow instructions so you can get started.

You may also want to visit my blog site to discover new things that can help you build your own solar panel.

Using The Sun's Energy In A New Way

By Michael Edwards

When doing the research for a article on new green products, I was unaware of many of the different ways to convert the energy of the sun into electrical power. I have written about solar cell or photovoltaic cell systems, so let's look at another type of solar energy system.

The Stirling engine was originally invented and patented as an air engine by Robert Stirling in 1816. It may have been designed as a replacement for the steam engine, because the steam engines used in factories would explode frequently, causing many injuries and fatalities. These days, because of the cost of fuel and the environmental problems with coal, many new designs are incorporating the Stirling engine in solar power systems.

The Stirling engine has many different designs, some more efficient than others. Some designs use the two cylinder Alpha design, some the Beta single cylinder design and some the Gamma design (a variation of the beta for use in multiple cylinder applications). The beta Sterling design has a single chamber with two pistons and uses a highly efficient regenerator gas as the thermal conductor.

The heat source needed to start and maintain the Stirling cycle depends on the temperature difference between the hot and cold chambers. The greater the differential between chambers, the faster the engine will operate. In some cases the difference that occurs when the cold chamber is cooled by wetting it is enough differential to start the engine.

The Stirling cycle is pretty simple. When a heat source is applied to the large end, it causes the air to expand which moves a piston. A flywheel is used to maintain movement between cycles and add a convenient place to tap the power from the engine. What is so amazing about this design is that the design is very scalable. Engines have been produced that are as small as your hand to a large as a car but the concepts remain the same.

The Stirling engine is ideal for use in a solar power generating system. With one of the hottest heat sources available (sunlight), the hot chamber will continue to operate without external fuels as long as there is daylight. This makes it ideal for use as a peaker type power plant when the demands for electricity are at there highest.

The engine and support equipment is contained in a package small enough to be suspended from the end of a metal arm, much like the design of satellite TV systems but on a much larger scale. Some systems are producing 25K watts of power and have been installed and operational for a couple of years.

In another article on green products, I will be doing a comparison of the different types of solar energy producing products to see how they play out and if they are a viable alternative power source or just a bunch of fancy equipment.

Is there a dark side to the Wii Gaming Console? Judging from its worldwide popularity you wouldn't think so. But there is! For those who are enjoying the Wii craze you know that sooner or later you will have to replace those Wii remote batteries.

The Low Down

Each year, in America alone, there are over 84,000 TONS of alkaline batteries that are thrown away. Alkaline batteries make up 20% of the household hazardous materials that end up in landfills. No small percentage.

The Danger

So whats the danger?

Batteries are not as innocent as they first appear. Once the batteries are taken to the landfills they begin to breakdown and decay. This decay releases the hazardous materials that are contained within the batteries, including mercury and toxins.

Environmentalists worldwide are crusading to reduce the number of alkaline batteries that are making it into our landfills. Their goal is to reduce or even eliminate the number of batteries that are releasing their poisons into the environment.

What Can be Done to Help?

You may be saying - "I just wanted to enjoy my Wii gaming console, I didn't mean to hurt the environment". Luckily there is a course of action you can take that will help reduce the problem. What is the solution?

A partial solution to this problem is rechargeable batteries, and for the Wii gamer that would mean a Wii charge station. You will be able to recharge your Wii remote batteries with ease with the Wii charge station. Each rechargeable battery can be recharged up to 2000 times, replacing approximately 300 alkaline batteries.

If gamers chose to use rechargeable batteries in their Wii remote controls, the amount of poisonous materials seeping into our landfills will be dramatically reduced.

Keep Your Roof Clean

By Scott Rodgers

It is not a rare sight to find someone ignoring his or her roof. However, ignoring the roof can cause a lot of damage in future. The most prominent reason being, roofs face harsh weather conditions like, hailstorms, snow, sunlight and these can easily ruin the entire roofing system of your house if proper care is not taken.

As has been typically witnessed with many roofs, a lack of regular cleaning can highly damage the roofing surface, thereby leading to big leaks and holes in the roof. Any neglect can make even the best roofs become vulnerable to heat, stains and fungi growth.

One can take care of his or her roof in many ways. One easy way to keep your roof clean is to have your roof slope regularly splashed with water to wipe off the dirt particles, unnecessary debris, insect waste, leaves etc.

However, in case you do not wish to wash your roof, you could even use a brush to bring the fine dirt off the roof.

One can also try cleaning the roof with liquid chemicals that are mixed with water. They act best in preventing the algae and fungus sticking to the roof.

One roof technicality is also involved here- Due to constant weathering and changing climatic conditions, roof shingles and tiles tend to wilt slowly and steadily. And this ultimately can damage your entire roofing structure.

Why it is pertinent to talk about all this is because one needs to understand when a roof might go weak. Your roofs might look different from on exterior walls but there could be possibility that they are different from inside. So, take care of your roofs.

Last but not the least, it is highly recommended to use a pressure washer after regular time intervals. It is of utmost importance to ensure that the roof is not washed at one go. In fact, it is ideal to try washing the roofs in ribbon patterns. This ensures that the roofs are not just cleaned, but also that these roofs are made to recuperate from weather exposures after periodic time periods.

Solar Power For Homes.

By Simon Berrit

The sun shines brightly in the sky providing warmth for the earth. It is also this warmth that we can use to provide energy that is cheap and renewable.

The steps you need to take to make it work for you are no longer very difficult or expensive. That means anyone can do it, even if they are not technically minded.

You will need to organize things a little to get yourself going. First requirement is a place that you can use that will be secure and that is exposed to sunlight. A roof being the obvious example. Next is a really high quality instruction manual.

For the instruction manual, you can choose from many, although I believe that Earth4Energy is the best there is.

Once you have secured the instruction manual then you will have all the information that you need to know to get the job done. Much of the equipment is easily available and you may even have some of it lying around at home.

Whatever else that is listed that you cannot get at home you will be able to buy from a DIY store that is found in every town. Everything that is written in the manual is very well explained and in easily understandable language.

If you get yourself into any trouble at any time then if you choose a manual from a company like earth4Energy , they have a support team that will be able to help you.

The final step once the solar panels have been built is to plug the batteries into them so that you can start storing power for your home. From there you will be in a position to start benefiting from the energy savings. You can also go on to build more panels if you like. We actually produce more energy then we require to power our house and our able to make extra money by selling this energy back to the power company.

Alternative Energy through Homemade Solar Panel

By Davion Wong

As the cost of energy rises, more and more people are becoming aware of alternative energy sources such as homemade solar panel. The people continuously think of ways to lower down their electricity bills and make life easier for them. After all, it is not only an effective way of saving a few bucks from your budget; it is also a noble act of helping save the environment.

Back in 1970's, people had already gained interest in the use of solar energy. It was then that the first oil crisis happened and the people realized just how much their oil dependence had caused them major problems. They tried to come up with projects that concentrate on the use of solar energy. However, all these plans had been kept hanging and did not materialized because the oil cost soon went down.

Nowadays, as we look back to what happened during those times, we can say that things could have been better if only the programs on solar energy were pushed and implemented. The cost of oil at present had skyrocketed which has become a major concern and every person is asking if there are better ways to make life easier. In this case, solar panels that are homemade can be beneficial.

The solar panel works by taking the most renewable energy source on earth. Then, it converts it so that it can be used in the homes as an alternative energy source. The principle is similar with that of a solar calculator only in this case, it is used in a larger application.

A solar panel which is homemade is a cheaper and a more practical alternative to an expensive basic solar panel system. The reason why a lot of people do not consider using a solar panel for their homes is because there are worried about the cost. A basic solar panel system can cost around $40,000 - this is what most people choose to believe in. However, there are far better alternatives which do not cause much but can serve its purpose.

A basic solar panel system may be costly but the important thing is that you have a more practical option. This is through a home-built solar panel which only costs around $200. The internet is the most reliable source of information regarding the materials and instructions. There are numerous websites that feature easy steps so you can start your project.

With your very own homemade solar panel, you can save money from heating and cooling bills caused by the big oil companies. Moreover, you will be doing the planet a huge favour. Remember that the leading cause of pollution is fossil fuels and 90% of the electricity comes from burning fossil fuels.

Through solar panels, you can reduce energy consumption of these fuels and reduce greenhouse gases released in the environment. Find out more about homemade solar panels by visiting my blog site.

The Advantages Of Building A Solar Home

By Tariq Ajram

Have you driven by homes that have these large tinted windows and wondered why? It may seem odd for people to have such tall windows in their homes. The most common explanation for this is the homeowners are creating solar energy to power their homes. With just a few minor alterations most homes can be built to make solar power, in turn saving you money by cutting out your monthly electric and/or gas bills.

Here are some good tips you might consider when starting your home to be powered by solar energy. Which side of the house you locate most of the windows on is determined partly by what part of the country you live in. It is usually safe to say that in most parts of the country the sun will rise toward the south side of your home. This being said, you would need to put most of your windows in the south side of your home. This allows the sun to flow through and warm your home naturally. It is also important to make sure no trees are close to the south side of the house which would block much of the suns rays.

Adding a home solar panel kit when building your home, works by collecting heat from the sun then converting it into usable energy for powering your home and heating your water. The cost for setting up solar power may be more than that of a conventional home, but your savings over the years can not be measured. You will not only save money for your family but you will also be part of saving the environment. The cost of electricity has dramatically increased the past few years while solar photovoltaic products have become more affordable. Spending the initial investment on building a solar powered home makes more sense now than ever before.

Tips for using solar energy to heat and cool your home:

1.) A simple way to reduce the time you use your air conditioner is to install ceiling fans.

2.) Ceiling fans also distribute the amount of heat and air more evenly so you do not have hot and cold pockets throughout your home.

3.) The use of metal insulated doors will help retain the heat and also keep out the cold.

4.) By keeping the doors shut on the side of your home most exposed to sunlight, it will help save the heat inside your home for a longer period of time.

The many advantages of building a solar powered home also include the peace of mind that you are building an environmentally friendly home and preserving our natural resources. Another great benefit is being free from the burden of a monthly energy bill, and the constant worry of rising gas and electricity prices. You are taking the first step in creating efficient homemade energy by acquiring a home solar panel kit and building your new solar home.

The Benefits Of Compost Activator

By Ferdinand Emy

Composting can provide many benefits, but when you are first getting started, it can be somewhat confusing. It is a combination of nutrients and micro-organisms. They are typically available in powder form and poured into holes within the compost pile. What is a compost activator and how does it benefit your compost? The compost activator is also sometimes referred to as a compost inoculate.

Herbal compost activators may contain such ingredients as dandelion, chamomile, yarrow, oak bark, nettle, valerian and honey. The pile will then be efficiently composted within one month to three months, depending on the time of year. There are also other types of natural compost activators that are produced from other materials such as comfrey leaves, chicken manure and grass clippings. You can choose to add compost activators to your compost pile when you first start it in order to give it a kick start or you can add compost activators in at different times of the year as you see that they are needed. Generally, compost piles will take some time to decompose naturally on their own.

This is something that you naturally want to avoid, therefore the need for the compost activator. When using these types of compost activators, they are usually just added to directly on top of the other compost scraps. One element that you will run across and need to understand is the compost activator. A compost activator can also be used to provide the heat activation that the compost pile needs when the weather is below 50 F. Herbal compost activators are completely natural and work efficiently and quickly.

The ingredient mix in herbal compost activators creates a compost pile that has a sweet scent to it. While you could certainly allow your compost pile to decompose on its own without adding in a compost activator, you run the risk of attracting odors and flies as well as other pests to your compost pile. A compost activator works by providing the nitrogen that a compost pile typically lacks naturally on its own. Nutrients, including potassium, may also be added to these compost activators. The holes are then filled back in.

It is added to the compost pile for the express purpose of speeding up the breakdown of the scraps in the pile. Other options for compost activators include fish, cottonseed, alfalfa meals and bone meal.

Take Note Of This When Designing Your Compost Bin

By Ferdinand Emy

If you live in an urban setting and you do have neighbors nearby then an enclosed compost bin design would be the better option because it will help to keep bad smells away.

When choosing a wooden compost bin design, be aware that your selection of materials can be important. Keeping these considerations in mind when choosing a compost bin design will help to ensure that you choose the right design for your needs and one that will last you for many years to come. This is because wood that is not treated or resistant to rot will begin to deteriorate at the same time as the materials in your compost. You should always choose either treated lumber or a type of wood that is naturally resistant to rot. In choosing which compost bin design is best for your needs, it is often wise to consider where you live.

Individuals who live on a large plot of land and who do not have to worry about any nearby neighbors will usually be able to do just fine with an open compost bin design. Beyond whether an open or enclosed compost bin design is best for your needs, you also need to think about the amount of space that you are able to dedicate to a compost bin. For example, there are enclosed compost bins as well as open compost bins. Consequently, a wooden compost bin made of untreated wood will not last very long and you will soon need to replace it.

If you have more space available to you then you can choose a larger compost bin design. For the most part, the type of material that you use to create a compost bin is not relevant. There are some neighborhoods that will not even allow open compost bins, so ensure to check on your neighborhood regulations when choosing a compost bin design. What should you look for in a compost bin design? If you are building your own compost bin then it is important to understand that there are many different compost bin designs that you can choose from. If you do not have a lot of space then a smaller compost bin will be best.

Plastic and metal tend to work equally well for composting. Compost bins can be made from a variety of different materials, including metal, wood and plastic.

Why The World Needs Wind Power..and How You Can Help!

By Allen Anderson

If you dont believe that we are in an energy crisis, take a second look. As a whole, we must do our part in repairing the environment and look towards the future with a better and greener plan in place. We must choose alternative energy over fossil fuels to keep our planet as healthy as possible.

Wind power is one such energy source that can help reduce pollution and our carbon footprint. The cost of installing a windmill can seem to be costly up front but you must remember in the long run youll be saving money due to the fact that windmills produce free nonpolluting wind energy into wind power. Some may think that they need a lot of wind in order to be able to efficiently use a windmill. You may be surprised that people who live in areas that have even a lower average wind speed of 11 miles per hour still get good results in producing wind energy.

One thing that dissuades people from setting up a windmill is the initial cost. There is an alternative to have your cake and eat it too! Homemade windmills and deciding to build your own windmill are great alternative energy decisions when you want to help the environment and the planet but not while busting your wallet. It is, however, important to consider certain things while setting up a windmill on your own. Here are a few tips on how to make a windmill.

Planning out your windmill project is one of those important steps in building a windmill to create wind power. Take the time to have a good plan.

Solar Cells

By Leo Gamahe

Photovoltaic cells are increasing in efficiency, but decreasing in cost although they are still the same old black squares placed on solar panels in an array format, but now they are able to concentrate energy to a particular point in a much better manner. The simple black panels called photovoltaic cells can direct sunlight more efficiently and prices are lower, thus making solar energy supply the next possible energy revolution in the near future. The price of solar power energy is tagged at watt per hour at this time of writing. Just 17 years ago, the expense for getting the same performance was about, double what it is today.

Solar powered electricity generation is one of the best things that have happened to the environment. This is an alternative form of energy production that does not emit any hazardous material into the environment and uses something that is naturally available as its source. Today, solar collection cells have become very popular additions to the rooftops of people's houses. Whether it is for heating your home or heating water or producing electricity for the home, you will find that these devices are quite simple to use. For heating water, water is first allowed to pass through the photovoltaic cells.

It is possible to gather heat from the sun even in stormy and cloudy weather with modern photovoltaic cells. It manages this by designing the solar cells to absorb and store more energy on bright sunlit days so that this can be used when the weather is not favorable.

There is actually another solar power system available for use called the PV System. A connection is made of the PV system to the nearest grid of electricity and when a particular home produces more energy using the solar cell, this excess energy is sent off to the grid so now the grid will use this energy for electricity production. By providing such a network, the PV system allows you to use a cheap environment friendly source of energy and itself works without much pressure on it. In some parts of the world, centralized solar arrays are being designed to serve whole urban and suburban settlements.

Worldwide, there has been an active interest among large scale corporations to enter into the arena of solar power generation and among other things, it shows how feasible this concept is. Two notable examples are Google and Wal-Mart - while Google has installed a 1.6 MW solar power plant on the roof of its headquarters, Wal-Mart intends to use a 100 MW system that it will devise.

The popularity of solar power generation is being further fostered by countries like Germany, Switzerland, Japan and of course the US by subsidizing individuals or companies who are installing these systems and also providing additional tax deductions to them. This kind of interest will only help make it more and more popular and ultimately - affordable!

Using The Sun's Energy In A New Way

By Michael Edwards

During the process of researching an article about green products on photovoltaic cell systems (solar panels), I came across another way to convert the sun's light into electricity. So let's take a look at another type of solar energy system.

This system is not new; it was originally conceived in 1816 as an industrial rival to the steam engine. It has been largely underutilized for the past century. With the need for renewable energy sources caused by the overuse of the fossil fuels interest has resurged in solar designs, and it is now being designed into many new solar collector systems.

The Stirling engine is a heat engine that is vastly different from the internal combustion engine. It is highly efficient, operates quietly and is great at converting otherwise wasted heat into kinetic energy. Its only drawback is loss of power from internal fraction. The gasses (most often air) used inside the engine remain inside and are never expelled. With no exhaust valves like a gasoline or diesel engine and with no explosions from combustion, the engines run very quietly.

The heat source needed to start and maintain the Stirling cycle depends on the temperature difference between the hot and cold chambers. The greater the differential between chambers, the faster the engine will operate. In some cases the difference that occurs when the cold chamber is cooled by wetting it is enough differential to start the engine.

Operation is simple: the gases are heated by an external source, causing the hot gas to move toward a cold chamber, in the process, a piston is driven and a flywheel rotated. To put it simply, movement is achieved from heat expansion. A few knock-offs of the Stirling engines are small enough to fit in your hand. Others system are designed to drive electrical generators. They are a about the size of a fifty-gallon drum.

The Stirling engine is ideal for use in a solar power generating system. With one of the hottest heat sources available (sunlight), the hot chamber will continue to operate without external fuels as long as there is daylight. This makes it ideal for use as a peaker type power plant when the demands for electricity are at there highest.

With better-designed engines and new types of material, a movable (tracking) parabolic mirror, and a single Stirling engine you can produce 25 kilowatts of electricity.

I will compare the different solar technologies in a later article. For now, I need to lay a foundational understanding of each of the green products used to produce power so a comparison can be made.

Is it Possble to Power Your Car With Water?

By Matthew Loop, DC

Are you sick of making "Big Oil" and gas companies filthy rich? Wouldn't it be amazing if there were a way to double your gas mileage and save hundreds at the pump each month? I'm going to share something right now that is going to change your life for the better and allow you to save loads of gas! If alternative, environmental friendly fuel sources peak your interest, this is the crown jewel of them all at the moment. Running your car with water is absolutely NOT a scam, it is the real deal...

Hydrogen technology has existed for a while, but unfortunately it has been to costly and expensive to implement. However, HHO gas (made from water, or H2O) is a newer technology that manages to use simply tap water to create pure energy that you can use to help run the car you already have, even without any automobile knowledge or expertise.

1) How in the World Can A Car / Truck Run with Water?

There is a system that you can create that hooks up to your car battery. It takes everyday tap water and removes a piece of hydrogen from its chemical makeup, carries it to the engine where it is burned and used, and then sent back into the air where it touches oxygen and becomes water again. By simply adding water to a piece of technology that you have added to your engine, you can triple your gas mileage and reduce your car's impact on the environment.

2) Why Should You Consider Running Your Vehicle with Water?

With high gas prices as they are, any money you can save is beneficial. But with water power in your car, you can triple your gas mileage allowing you to save thousands of dollars every year, all for the cost of only a few pieces of equipment. In addition, with global warming on the horizon, reducing your own car's carbon imprint is the first ste towards making the country and the world a better place for our children.

3) Are They Available in Stores?

Due to the oil company's hold on corporate America, it is very difficult to find a premade engine supplement to add to your car and allow it to start running on water. But there are step by step guides you can get that show you exactly how to convert your car into the water/fuel hybrid. The systems are incredibly advanced, yet they are so simple that anyone can build the addition, even with very little automobile knowledge. And the cost is less than a hundred dollars, so considering the thousands of dollars you save every year, the benefits are impressive to say the least.

Everyone can switch to the water car system to power their trucks, cars, etc., because the more people that switch, the better it will be for the environment and the less we are supporting the oil company's profits. Eventually, these water cars will be able to help reduce global warming as well as our dependence on foreign oil, allowing us to avoid the energy crisis and start using a safer alternative right away.

As high gas prices continue to rise, the ability to use a water car system instead is incredibly beneficial. Not only are you saving the environment, but your are providing relief to your wallet as well. Converting your car into a water car hybrid is the first step towards making all of our lives better.

Wind Turbine Electricity - Alternative Energy Solution

By Denzil De Vries

Wind power is an exceptionally efficient and cost effective power alternative. The wind is an awesome force, and it can put out a lot of raw power to be converted into energy that we can use in our everyday lives. Wind turbine electricity is one of most popular power generators in use today. There are wind farms located in many locations throughout the United States.

The wind turbine electricity is generated obviously by the wind. Wind is a type of solar power. This is how it works, as the sun heats surfaces at differing rates, hot air rises up and cooler air will rush in to fill the gap. Thus the rushing that is produced is the wind. If a wind turbine is positioned in the right area it will catch the wind.

One of the most important parts of the wind turbine is the blade. In today's horizontal turbines, there are typically three blades. The blades can be made of a plastic and fiberglass composite or wood. The blades are concave, and off center to allow for catching the wind and spinning proficiently.

The blades connect to a double rotor assembly. The blade rotor connects to the blades and spins as they catch wind. The blade rotor connects to a magnet rotor through a pulley assembly which is on larger turbines or at times directly on the smaller turbines often used for homes.

The magnet rotor is not used to turn anything it spins about a magnetic alternator which in turn creates a magnetic field. When the magnetic field goes over the wires of the alternator, an electrical charge is produced. The electrical charge that is produced is carried into a regulator that converts the natural electricity into DC power for home use.

Now you have had a crash course in how a wind turbine works, you can imagine the potential. As you see it is a bit more complicated than one might first realize. It is however quite simple at its core. Harnessing the wind for energy use has been around for a long time. In days past it was used to turn wheels for different types of uses such as running a saw at a saw mill.

The technology may be new, but the idea is old. The look has changed, as the turbines are much more aerodynamic and modern looking. This is one of the best power sources for the future, just like it has been in the past.

Frozen Water Pipes

By Tal Potishman

Dealing with frozen water pipes at home during the winter season can be quite a nuisance. Not only does it cause a great deal of discomfort, but it wastes a lot of time and and money that can be spent elsewhere. However, there are certain precautions you can take to stop this from happening. For example, there are many mistakes that home-owners often make when at home. Some people do not leave the heating on when they leave their homes for lengthy periods of time. It is advisable to not turn the heating off completely when you go away for a few days or longer. The best things to do is to keep the heating on a low temperature. This way the heat will protect the pipes from freezing. Ensure that everyone in the house abides by this too in order to keep the house insulated.

Insulating your pipes as a preventative measure

Insulating your pipes is a good preventative measure to stop them from freezing. This is particularly applicable to pipes that are below the home, as they are more exposed to freezing temperatures. A solid layer of insulation will work in protecting them. You should check with you local DIY store for all the necessary materials. If you are unsure on how to insulate yourself, it may be a good idea to call a professional to help you. This may be more cost-effective rather than risking a frozen pipe bursting. Inside your house, you can take steps to leaving doors open so that the heat can reach the pipes.

Spotting a leaking pipe

You should also be wary of leaking pipes. If you have one, you should fix it as soon as possible, as leaking pipes are usually a good indication that they will burst soon. This is especially the case when the pipes are exposed to freezing temperatures. In order to save on cost, it is best for you to fix the problem as soon as possible. If you notice one leaking, get hold of a disposable diaper or a towel and wrap it around the leak. However, as this is a temporary solution to the problem, you should call a plumber to come and properly fix the problem. The towel or disposable diaper will only contain the leak for an hour or so.

What to do with a burst pipe

Unfortunately you may have failed to spot the signs that a pipe was about to burst. In some cases you may have taken some preventative measures but the pipe burst anyway. If this does happen, you should turn off the water supply and call a plumber straight away. There may be some electrical appliances around. If this is the case, you should turn them off first, then the water. Make sure that everyone gets away from the water. If you have some water-protective clothing - wear it. Move any objects that are around away from the water. This way you can protect your most treasured items, and it will also help your plumber manoeuvre his way around the water.

If the flooding is particularly bad, you may have to find alternative accommodation. It would help to check your insurance policy to see if your costs will be covered. You should also leave the windows and drawers open to aid the drying process.

A Commercial Energy Audit Reveals Options For The Future

By Daniel Stouffer

Resources and budgets are facing a relentless assault and causing companies anxious times, especially in the field of energy management. As utility providers increase their chances and politicians plan additional governmental legislation, organizations are turning to a comprehensive commercial energy audit to help them prepare.

A lot of attention is being paid to climate control and global warming and it is becoming more apparent that we will need to decrease our reliance on traditional fuels. The American Clean Energy and Security Act has recently passed through the House of Representatives by a small margin. Should this become law, organizations will need to reduce their reliance on products and procedures that cause greenhouse gas emission. As this legislation progresses, companies are seriously looking at their commercial energy audit options.

Specialized software and enterprise energy management programs are available from leading organizations in this particular field. Companies that are very reliant on fuel heavy products, processes and equipment can use these products to observe, track and modify their usage. Once a successful commercial energy audit is complete, software can help a company to achieve considerable economies of scale, regardless of the number of locations.

One of the goals of the new ACES Act, currently passing through the United States Congress, is to reduce reliance on traditional fuels and to increase, on a sliding scale, reliance on alternative options, such as solar, wind, biofuels, thermal. Companies will also be prompted to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions through their various processes.

The United States government is proposing a cap and trade system to help companies adapt to new rules. By interacting with other companies a business may conform while still meeting its short to midterm requirements, by trading or buying unused energy. The business that sells an unused allocation would receive an additional financial benefit for being compliant.

The employment of a full-time energy manager cannot be justified by many smaller businesses. As such, they may turn to enterprise energy management programs and software solutions. Operating costs can be reduced and stringent requirements met through the use of these solutions. As part of a commercial energy audit, officials can then understand and keep up with their needs and make sure that they comply with the complex reporting requirements.

A commercial energy audit can identify several options available to a company such as industry grants, loans, incentives, rebates and other funding, for the upgrade or installation of energy efficient equipment. Specialized software also helps the company to consolidate its carbon footprint.

Momentum is gathering in government circles, pointing towards increasingly onerous federal and state requirements. Companies must look at more fuel-efficient equipment and processes and must see whether they can take advantage of alternative fuel sources. More attention will be paid to commercial energy audit options by the company of tomorrow.

ACES Act Heralds Climate Concerns

By Daniel Stouffer

The recent passage through the House of Representatives of the American Clean Energy and Security Act moved Pres. Barack Obama closer to the possibility of a significant victory. The ACES Act calls for utilities to use more renewable energy and brings in increased requirements up through the year 2050. The new act expands to a nationwide basis the need for utilities to pay extra attention to energy production.

One of the primary focal point of the ACES Act is that it requires fully 20% of all electricity production to come from sources such as biofuel, geothermal, wind, solar and waste reproduction by the year 2020. Advocates for the bill maintain that this is one of the most significant steps towards capping carbon pollution and the containment of climate change.

A nationwide standard is now proposed for a reduction in emission of harmful greenhouse gases. The ACES Act includes a declining cap on emissions and companies will be given a strict allowance which will be reduced over time. A cap and trade system will be introduced to take into account that individual companies have a variety of different requirements and these companies will be additionally incentivized as they can profit from the sale of their excess allowances and reduce emissions at the same time.

Major enterprises across the nation will soon be pitched to reduce their reliance on fuels and procedures that cause the emission of greenhouse gases. It is estimated that the impact of the proposed reduction by the year 2020 will be equivalent to taking half a billion cars off the road in the United States.

The ACES Act, also known as Waxman/Markey - the two sponsors of the bill in the House - spurs investment in clean energy technologies and is intended to bring additional and valuable jobs into the manufacturing sector. A certain amount of given allowances will apply to consumers, mainly in the form of tax credits and other payments and benefits that are intended to be passed through utility companies directly to end-users.

In anticipation of the ACES Act and further legislation, companies that are likely to be impacted are seeking the help of energy management initiatives and using software programs designed to track, analyze and help reduce emissions. Canny management executives are considering the various ways that the cap and trade allowances can be used to best effect and to help their bottom line.

The passage of the ACES Act, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 is very significant and continues the growing movement towards a reduction in greenhouse gases and the overall lowering of carbon pollution around the world.

The ACES Act won a narrow vote in the US House on Representatives. Overcoming this first hurdle, the movement now heads to the Senate for possible modifications before returning to the House and forward to receive Pres. Obama's signature.

Run Your Car With Water and Save Hundreds on Fuel Each Month

By Matthew Loop, DC

Is it me, or does it seem as if gas prices are going up every day? In Atlanta, the average price at the moment is around $4.05 / gallon, which is not as much as the west coast but still a bit too lofty for my blood. Sometimes I wonder what it's going to take for people to storm Washington DC and oust those who are turning a blind eye to the public. But, in all fairness, it's not only the US that is being raped by Big Oil, as some countries pay over $8.00 per gallon!

Awareness is essential in the critical times that we face at the moment. More people need to become aware of viable fuel / energy alternatives that are available, but have been swept under the rug or made to seem impossible by effective PR by the oil industry globalists.

We have all heard about the possibilities of Hydrogen gas, but we have never heard of people actually implementing it. It turns out, however, that there have been several news stories that show the benefits of a different type of hydrogen gas, known as HHO gas, that are available to help run your car on water (H2O).

For relatively little out-of-pocket cost, you can turn your car into a water / gas running hybrid in less than a few hours. It is by far the best and most convenient option at the moment since it is doubtful that many Americans will begin to walk, ride a bike, or take the bus to and from work.

Although ideally we here in America will switch towards completely fuel free systems of travel, such as biking or running, it will obviously be quite a long time before anything like that is implemented. Until then, one way to get relief is to turn your car into a water car hybrid. The end result of the Hydrogen gas is water, so when you have used the fuel, far less harm is being done to the environment.

High gas prices appear to be a mainstay in today's economy. Too many people are profiting off of the working class for any real change to take place, and big oil is going to continue its stranglehold on fuel and energy systems for as long as this continues. It may be decades before any real change is implemented, and even then it may come too late.

But since water fuel technology is real and available today, you can still make a difference to the environment and your wallet. And the more people that start using Water fuel technology, the more likely others will put time and money into researching a way to someday use a car that is 100% run on water, with absolutely no gas necessary. While it may seem like a pipe dream, when the demand for water engines goes up, the market will eventually (however reluctantly) start to follow.

It is important to know and understand that you do have options at the moment. Don't be fooled by mainstream TV, Radio, and other media (who are owned by their sponsors, by the way) when they say that alternative fuel like water is a hoax! If you believe them, you'll continue to be a sucker and your financial state will continue to worsen. Do what people by the thousands are doing every day.... that is learn how to use water as fuel and energy so you can cease dependency on petroleum

Various Methods Of Compost Bin Designs

By Ferdinand Emy

Many people who live in urban areas and who are concerned about the smell of their compost disturbing their neighbors choose an enclosed compost bin design.

One of the most popular types of enclosed compost bin designs is the compost tumbler. In order to mix the materials, all you have to do is to turn the tumbler using a crank that is attached to the structure. You may notice that there is not a surplus of wooden compost bin designs. This is because of a very important reason. The waste materials are placed inside and the lid is closed.

As the waste materials break down, they have a tendency to also cause most woods to rot. When considering the purchase of a wooden compost bin always check to make sure that the wood is either naturally resistant to rot or treated. Some woods, such as cedar, are more resistant to rot and as a result can be used in compost bin designs. This type of compost bin design is an excellent choice if you do not have a lot of space.

This is a very simple and space saving way to benefit from composting. First, think of whether you need an enclosed compost bin. Of course, if you have more space available to you then you may wish to choose a larger compost bin design. Only limited types of wood can be efficiently used to make compost bins. Compost bins can be produced from a variety of different materials.

These are great if your home produces a lot of yard and kitchen waste and you want to make use of it by turning it into compost. This will help you to avoid having to replace your compost bin in the near future because of rot. There are many different types of compost bin designs available today. If you have never composed before trying to decide among the many different types of compost bin designs can certainly be quite confusing. While an enclosed compost bin is certainly not an essential, you may find it more convenient depending upon your needs.

You will find metal as well as plastic compost bin designs. This is why it is essential that you never place your compost bin directly next to a wooden structure. There are enclosed bins as well as open bins. It can be easily placed anywhere you wish.

Using Solar Power To Power Your Home.

By Simon Berrit

The sun is a never ending source of energy, it's clean and it's cheap, so the sooner we all start using it the better.

The process is much easier than it used to be. You don't have to have a strong technical background, or be a 'techie' or anything of the sort.

Of course there are a few prerequisites, like the need to have a roof or some place to put a panel that can easily gather sunlight. Following this you will need to have a very good quality instruction manual to work with.

When you are choosing the instruction manual, it would be hard to beat Earth4Energy, although there are many others around.

The instructions contain the information telling you what equipment is needed to get the solar panels built. Much of it may well already be found in your home, whether that is actually in the house or in the garage.

Anything else can be bought from the local Do It Yourself Store. The instructions are written in plain easy to understand English and should not take more than a few days.

If you do choose a guide from a high quality company then whenever you find some problems or get stuck then there support team who will be happy to help you out are just an email away.

The end of the process involves getting the batteries connected to the whole system which will allow you to store the power once you are collecting the sunlight. This is of course absolutely vital to the whole process and you will not be able to store your energy with out doing this. If you like you can stop after one panel or continue to build more and more and even get involved in wind turbines and renewable wind energy.

For Companies, An Energy Broker Is A Valuable Asset

By Daniel Stouffer

As energy use is a major part of a company's budget, it makes sense to use the services of an energy broker. Electricity, oil and natural gas can be procured from your suppliers at the lowest cost for your type of business and according to the most attractive offer. Big savings can be realized by monitoring energy consumption.

An energy broker procures the best electricity, natural gas, and other energy rates for a facility. These rates, generally at or below current market conditions, are based on how well a company, store, or other type of facility manages their energy use. Computerized controls and software that track real time energy use, monitor service related energy increases and track energy contractor performance allow facilities to take advantage of energy cost savings.

These days, companies need to really focus on their energy costs, reducing their usage and staying within budget. Managing energy usage throughout an entire organization is a major challenge and many companies are turning to specialized software designed by companies that excel in enterprise energy management. Software programs have been designed to cover site-specific energy needs, monitor weather data and analyze the multitude of other factors that contribute to their needs.

An energy broker has a portal where information about an enterprises energy use is transmitted. Using information from these remote data managers, the best rate structure for day-to-day and hour-to-hour energy usage can be determined.

Organizations everywhere must evaluate their energy usage, especially as new federal regulations have been implemented with the aim of reducing overall energy usage. Facility managers can now do their bit to help end global warming, by utilizing specialized software programs to help them identify, monitor and track their entire energy portfolio.

After labor costs and benefits, energy is one of the largest operating expenses for a business. It goes without saying that savings should be evaluated and a good energy broker can monitor rates on a daily basis and advise such enterprises when to lock in a fixed rate price. The broker will handle all the billing arrangements and is a great help to commercial businesses and industries in their quest to reduce costs.

To get the best available energy rates, an enterprise should first take time to manage their electrical loads, to install meters and to make sure that energy conservation efforts are remembered during their design, operations and maintenance work. An energy broker can then advise where cost savings can be realized and can work in your best interests with energy producers to procure those good rates.

Software that automatically tracks energy consumption equipment provides a great benefit to companies and retail facilities as part of an enterprise energy management program. Past and current energy usage is analyzed in order to measure and manage consumption and related costs, worldwide, if necessary.

Smart Meters For Our Homes - Will They Really Help Lower Energy Costs?

By J. Dyess

You may have heard about the recent call for installing smart meters in our homes. These meters are advanced electrical meters that identify power consumption in greater detail than ordinary meters, and send that information back to the utility for billing and monitoring. But will they really help reduce power consumption? Let's take a look at what smart meters can and can't do for us.

Unlike the old traditional meters which were only able to track the amount of energy consumed, the new smart meters will be able to measure not only how much electricity is being used, but also when it is used. It is hoped that this will allow electricity companies to set different rates according to the times when the most energy is being consumed and as such, it may help to encourage people to use electricity during off peak hours in order to take advantage of reduced rates.

Interestingly enough, the main electricity company in Italy is already providing electricity to more than 27 million customers via new electronic smart meters. These meters are not only able to measure power consumption, but they're also capable of managing it. Furthermore, being solid state, they communicate via low voltage power lines which make it possible for the electric company to detect any outages or unauthorized use of power. They also make it possible for the electric company to turn the electricity supply on or off from a remote location.

Smart meters have also been implemented in Turkey, Canada, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Australia. In the United states, a number of jurisdictions are actively pursuing smart meter technology, such as Northen California, Los Angeles, and Austin, Texas. Implementation is imminent in the UK and in Ireland. Energy experts have noted that it's important for meters to allow homeowners to make choices such as buying their power when it's cheapest and selling wind turbine and solar panel electricity to utilities when they choose to.

The biggest problem with smart meter technologies is generally communication, since each meter must be able to securely and reliably communicate the information to a central point. This can be tricky, given the range of locations and environments in which these meters are located. Some solutions that have been proposed include cellular networks, radio, and power line communications.

Recently, US President Obama has called for the installation of forty million smart meters, as well as three thousand miles of transmission lines. This would be the first real update to the electrical grid in about forty years. Some feel that this will create what is being called a "smart grid" and will be as big an influence on our society as the Internet, the Interstate, the telephone and the railroad. The ability of this grid to pull energy from clean power projects is one of the reasons it's being supported, as well as its ability to forstall the need for building new power production centers.

With the price of smart meters ranging from 100 to $300.00 each, it's apparent that the price depends largely on the quality of the meter being used. Even though this could be considered a significant investment, when one considers that there's been a lot of investment into this technology, it may very well be possible sooner rather than later. In all likelihood you will soon be choosing when you want to use electricity, based on the various prices, and hopefully this will allow you to reduce your average monthly energy bill.

Green Products Has Located an Incredible Low Cost High Output Solar Design

By Michael Edwards

You would not believe what we at Green Products found (and no they are not UFOs). Can you imagine a field planted with silver balloons as far as the eye can see, or a hillside covered with silver balls? It's not Christo's latest pop-art install, but rather, a solar farm. This is what Cool Earth out of Livermore, California envisions in the very near future. The solar collection concept is not new, but the concentrator is different from anything seen before on any renewable energy product.

The current installed solar plants use flat-panels. Each panel is heavy, large, easily damaged, and costly to repair. This means the cost to produce a watt of electricity is 5-7 times greater than using natural gas and is not a feasible alternative to fossil fuels. This is no longer true with the Cool Earth solar balloon system.

The system's design is centered on the concept of an air-filled Mylar balloon like a children's birthday balloon. One half of the balloon is a highly reflective mirror-like surface and the other half is transparent. The solar cell is located at the center of the clear side allowing sunlight to pass by, be collected and focused back onto the solar cell.

With the new design comes and the ability to increase sunlight concentration and reduce expensive solar cell material by 300 to 400 times. This cost reduction will bring the price down to a mere one dollar per watt. To give that some context: a typical flat-panel PV(photovoltaic) system on a residential rooftop is about seven to eight dollars per watt.

The basic structure of each orb is simple. It has a lightweight circular metal frame with an arm that holds the solar cells near the top of the clear side of the orb. Even though the balloon is eight feet in diameter, the frame is the only rigid component of the basic design. It connects to a point where external hardware is attached for mounting.

This system is ideal for any of the western states where sunlight is most abundant and is not obscured by long term cloud formations during an average year. During the summer months this type of system could be used as a "peaker" (that is, a peak-use power source) to prevent rolling power outages.

Some of the more interesting aspects of this solar power station are how simple the design is and how multiples are pulled together to produce a solar power plant. Check it out.

Michael
