Coating Your Bathroom For The Greater Good

By Tal Potishman

Bathroom coatings are not a new phenomenon as they have been around for many years. However, it is only recently that its true benefits are starting to be noticed. Much of the reasoning behind this is due to their improvement in performance transforming from varnish-like silicon products to today's hydrophobic layers, engineered at molecular level. Applying coating to your bathroom will not only ensure that you are protected from lime scale, but also other particles.

A major reason why many people choose to invest in coating their bathroom is the act that they will have to clean less. Coating prevents the build up of dirt or lime, thus do not need cleaning products to keep the surfaces clean. In fact, many manufacturers actively advise people who have coating to avoid using chemical cleaners as they can damage the surface.

The difference between the two is that other bathroom surfaces are hydrophilic. This allows for lime and other deposits to build up and sit on the surface. These can prove to be quite corrosive over a period of time and cause quite a bit of damage at molecular level. This is why coatings are increasingly becoming more practical. The coating works to repel any lime or dirt build up. Thus saves you alot of time and stress over cleaning.

What is the actual difference?

It has been reported that around 46 million every year is spent specifically on bathroom cleaners. In addition, another 117 million on liquid bleach and disinfectants and 14 million on limescale removers. These are staggering figures, and ones that should be taken seriously. If we started using even a proportion of these on coatings instead, think of the impact we could have on the environment.

So how does this affect the environment?

There are many reasons as to why you should use protective coating in your bathroom. If you are concerned about the environment, using coating will mean that you will not need to use chemical cleaning products any more. Coating prevents harmful chemicals from being released into the atmosphere.

Therefore, using coating will not only have a positive impact on the environment, but it will also reduce your time spent in cleaning. Your household bills will also be reduced as you will not require as many cleaning products. Most household owners when making a new purchase rarely consider the impact their decision may make on the environment. However, with increasing awareness of the environment this view is now starting to change.

How eco-friendly a product will be on the environment is usually the last thing on people's minds when they are making a purchase. The most important factors usually include the price, functionality, and its appearance. The challenge now lies with manufacturers to integrate the eco-friendliness of the product with the price.

It should be noted that customers will not be the only ones that will benefit from using coatings in their bathroom. There is also a corporate and social responsibility involved. If more businesses started using coatings in their bathrooms the impact on the environment will be huge.
